Art Basel week in Miami is total chaos. I was out of town this year and was not mad about it at all. There's plenty of value if you do it properly. There is an abundance of wealthy individuals in town for the week. If you go to the right events and put yourself in a position to meet the right people, there’s a lot that can be gained from it. The downside I see of Basel is that a lot of people use it as an excuse to go on a six-day bender when they’re already taking time off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's in the same 40 day period. When everyone and their mother is in town, and there's hundreds of cool events going on all week, it's tough to stay locked in, but “It’s Basel week” shouldn't be a justification for voluntarily holding yourself back from what is most important. Also, the traffic. Definitely did not miss that.
