@Lynndraws " . . . without flattening the light or drifting into anime/cartoon exaggeration." I oil paint fairly serious Racing Cars wirh Olive oil (dries slower than linseed, enabling for color blending/shading/reflecting to mark the body shape/procrastinate) and satirical cartoons.

I totally get what you mean , balancing subtle depth without going flat or overly animated is a real challenge. I find that using several thin oil layers to build the light gradually helps keep the colors vibrant while maintaining that semi realistic feel.

Being an indie author is wild. You spend years pouring your soul into a story — rewriting scenes until 3 a.m., obsessing over every detail — then hit “publish” and suddenly you’re expected to become a marketer, website designer, and social media person overnight. I wrote Man Amongst the Clouds trying to capture something real. In my book, the deepest magic isn’t fireballs or ancient spells. It’s memory — how the past refuses to stay buried and shapes everything we become. The part no one warns you about? How vulnerable it feels putting something that personal into the world.
