In this context, Europe, which has always distinguished itself as the “home of open source” (one example above all: the Linux operating system and its derivatives), could recover its space and act as a guide towards the new generation of open models. #genAI #HumanCenteredAI #AI

It is therefore the hope of the writer that this trend will also spread to other players in the field of generative AI, allowing greater transparency and democratization in the use of this technology.

Yesterday, I received an Honorable Mention Award for Best Reviewer at the EuroVis conference! HappyEuroVis recognizes this effort as it can be a motivation for scientists to provide high-quality reviews. Thanks to Full Paper chairs and Best Reviewer Award committee! @EuroVisConf

Happy to be included in the 500 Italians list for AI. As much as lists matter, and considering they reported my position wrong (I am an Associate Professor), it still gives pleasure to see research efforts and work in the Italian AI Commission acknowledged repubblica.it/tecnologia/dos…

Interesting point of view from @acmpolicy on Trusted AI and the role of researchers, engineers, and regulators. Research on Human-centered AI and Intelligence Amplification for human users is more and more important to provide viable solutions.
ACM Public Policy@acmpolicy

Don't trust AI? You're not alone, says ACM's latest TechBrief: "Trusted AI." Such trust is vital, but engineers and proposed regs may be on the wrong track to building and gauging it. What to do? Read the Brief, of course! dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.114…

@FILWD Sure, this is absolutely part of the advisor's duties. What I meant is that this relation is not unidirectional and that the ideas/attitude/novel perspectives of the student help in "enriching" the advisor, too. In this virtuous collaborative cycle, both of them grow.

@Lynos79 I do think advisors work for their students. That’s their job! It is my duty as an advisor to give advice to you if you are my student.

Sometimes we colloquially say that we are “hiring” a PhD student. I find the term “hiring” quite cringy in this context. PhD students are students, not workers. They don’t work for me. I work for them!
