This study extends these results to an arbitrary form of E(k) ~ k^n at low wavenumbers, with n integer. We show that if n = 1 then the velocity variance decays as <u^2> ~ x^(-2) and for any n>4, then <u^2> ~ x^(-4). But for n = 3, then perhaps unexpectedly <u^2> ~ x^(-4) ln(x).

More recently, our own study cambridge.org/core/journals/… showed that for a Saffman spectrum with E(k) ~ k^2, the variance of the velocity fluctuations decays instead as <u^2> ~ x^(-3), which was confirmed by our DNS.

Our recent paper in @PhysRevE in collaboration with @istecnico journals.aps.org/pre/abstract/1… shows how the decay of velocity fluctuations outisde a #turbulence region with distance from the T/NT interface depends on different forms of the turbulence #spectrum's low wavenumber range.
