4th grade is wrapping up our patriotic music unit by creating their own pieces. They have to choose to express themselves in a poetic style or a military style. Can’t wait to hear what they come up with! @jbland100@MorrisBrandonES@Quaver_Ed
Today is assessment day! Students work together to play, record and then assess themselves on music literacy. Bravo on your hard work Mr Doig’s class! @MorrisBrandonES@jbland100
Sometimes we will pause music making for a week to do a little traditional literacy. While music literacy is important for the well rounded person, traditional reading skills are essential for life. By choosing quality stories we can learn about music while flexing our reading.
You hear chaos. I hear progress. 5th grade was given a score, asked to decode it and add instruments after having learned how to sing the song by rote. Grateful to @Quaver_Ed for quality resources for hands on, real world learning!
Starting this week, we will have a Class Of The Week to reward excellence in musicianship, effort and behavior. This week’s recipient of the Golden Quaver @Quaver_Ed is Mrs Parker’s 5th grade homeroom! Congratulations 🐝🐝
Check out 5th grade taking action and applying our learning in real life ways. Taking everything we’ve learned about notes and rhythms to read music and play Musica Latina with boomwhackers! @jbland100@MorrisBrandonES
🇬🇧🇺🇸 A special Changing of the Guard took place at Buckingham Palace today.
Marking the end of President Trump’s State Visit to the UK @GrenadierGds were joined by the @ArmyFifeandDrum for a truly memorable performance, celebrating the close ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.
Thank you so much SFC Morgan for joining us to talk to 4th grade about @ArmyFifeandDrum Corps. What an incredible experience to meet a professional musician who’s also serving our country! Thank you for all you do! @MorrisBrandonES@jbland100@erickson_sarah_
Candy isn’t just yummy… it’s perfect for composing for the first time. Check out the collaboration as 3rd grade composes candy rhythms in a meter of 3. @jbland100@MorrisBrandonES
In music, we use critical thinking skills to analyze rhythmic patterns. Students are dissecting the song and figuring out how to play, engaging in communication skills to collaboratively work, and using reading to “speak” the language of music. Wow! That’s a lot for our brains!
Our big idea for unit one is RHYTHM and how does rhythm function as form. Everybody has worked hard to get to the point where we are reading and playing. Did you know that rhythm reading functions the same way that reading language does in the brain? Music is literacy!
Vamos clase de @dayanacamachou1! Today we composed ostinati with notes and movement while also working on a Native American song. Check them out. You should see short, repeated patterns. Muy bien muchachos!! @MorrisBrandonES
Way to go Mr Harrelson’s class! We were drumming sixteenth notes today with @Quaver_Ed. Now I’ve got Super Sixteenths stuck in my head! Making music all the time at @MorrisBrandonES
Nothing says FriYAY like a little YMCA dance break! Did you know that when you dance you demonstrate BOTH the steady beat and the rhythm? Music is essential to a whole child education. @MorrisBrandonES@jbland100@apsupdate@erickson_sarah_
