"One could trim one's apparel through the mirror of bronze, one could learn one's mistakes through the mirror of people, one could understand the rise and fall of empires through the mirror of history." Emperor Taizong of Tang, 2nd Emperor of the Tang Dynasty (Reign: 626 - 649)

@Rux_Dacoromana It totally makes sense, because that's how I feel as well whenever I am in gardens or near water fountains or large bodies of water, like the sea! 🙊🐯 I recharge here, drink tea, and walk around. I totally get you 💜 I adore purple flowers as well! I'll stay tuned 🪻 Best wishes

@MCA1836 That’s so very kind of you 🙏 I also feel most like myself in a garden if that makes sense and there is something very special about violet flowers, particularly the olfactory notes, I love them.. I’ll be sharing soon what I’ve been working on and what is coming 🔥

I took some time away from social media as I took a couple of weeks off and went to Romania. A thought that lingers in my mind is that often the timing, intensity and complexity of the trials of life is simply absurd. I found that the remedy to most suffering is the poverty of spirit (Matthew 5:3) and the realisation that happiness truly is a commitment to resilience, mental fortitude and an act of courage for life. I am also looking forward to many great projects for Classical Odyssey these coming months and I’m so grateful for all your support and the incredibly deep conversations this platform allowed! 💫

I really wish there was a video game set in Hubert Robert's fictional ruins. The ruins he depicted look so spectacular, monumental. Like something you really wish existed, even if just as a ruin. People look so small next to them.

People living among the ruins of a great civilization. The paintings of Hubert Robert deliberately contrast the monumental scale and grandeur of a past civilization with mundane activities of ordinary people. This painting is titled Roman Ruins with Laundresses, made c. 1777.

@UHD4000k @revenant_MMXX For a political party that screeches so much about SJWs from Democrats or leftards, they sure love to go full SJW cuckoldry for jews/Israel and women.

@theoldworldshow I don't think it's an odd choice. Contrary, you retelling her story adds depth, because it explains how her high status, faith & marriage played a part in the American experiment during our infancy upon her joining the English. Telling these stories shows their humanity & trials.

I know the tale of Pocahontas might seem like an odd choice for me to make a show on at first blush, but I do think this is an important one Not only was she involved with two of the most important early Americans--John Smith and John Rolfe--but her story perfectly shows the perfidy and treachery embedded in native culture, about which the colonists were horrified and against which they could make little headway Pocahontas converted to Christianity, after all, because her people first sold her for a copper kettle and then abandoned her to the mercies of enemies they thought would treat her terribly so they could hold onto some old swords
The Old World Show@theoldworldshow

Please check out my new episode on the life of Pocahontas, from how she got her nickname to how her formal name--Matoaka--lives on as the name of one of America's most famous towns Plus, John Smith, John Rolfe, and more make it quite the adventure! youtu.be/DjQxEGL8LN4

Later, in September 1794, the "Father of the Constitution" & Dolley would marry. She was now Mrs. Madison. She said to him, "Our hearts understand each other." They would go on to enter both the White House in 1809 & eternal glory after the War of 1812.

"Dolley, is it true" Martha Washington asked Dolley Payne Todd, "thou art engaged to James Madison?" "No, Madam" said Dolley. "If it is so do not be ashamed, be proud" Martha declared, "he will make thee a GOOD husband! All the better for being so much older. We both advocate it"

A nice video detailing the life of Pocahontas & her role in being the bond between the Powhatan Confederacy she hailed from & the English who took her in, & how she gracefully navigated the game of empires, her history & later mythology being woven into the American story.

My new @theoldworldshow show is out, this one on the true story of Pocahontas! Did you know that the reason she converted to Christianity, took the name Lady Rebecca, and married John Rolfe is that her own people betrayed and abandoned her? Watch here: youtu.be/DjQxEGL8LN4

@blockhead4000 I've seen an uptick of posts on Greek/Roman stuff & the Confederacy on my feed for some reason. Not that I mind. I'm learning a lot. But I wonder what set it off.
