@Stannym1 @PaulTassi Free play weeks and weekends are a common tactic in live service games. Destiny did it plenty of times both before and after making the base game F2P.

@PaulTassi 😆LOL Now they're doing desperation tactics. I guess they really need this season to be a hit and get some profits out of it. Oh well the gameplay still looks the same so it's still boring.

Marathon is doing an open play week from season start June 2 to June 9, its first. All progress carries over to season 2 if you end up buying it

@maevesfw If D2 were as loved and popular as everyone is imagining it was, all 200K+ of those signatures would have reflected in the daily player count. Yet here we were with sub-10K players until the announcement that D2 was ceasing development and the ensuing rage.

I've played Destiny for thousands of hours, over 25% of my life. I had an amazing time and made awesome new friends. I'm sad to see it ending (for now). I also enjoy Marathon and hope it succeeds. It's a good game that shouldn't be judged by any perceived impact on Destiny.

I think I caught my first block ever today! From someone unable to handle reasonable discourse about the whole Destiny/Marathon kerfuffle happening recently. Remember folks - echo chambers don't encourage effective discourse or provocative thinking. 🙂

@rose_arbor @MarathonTheGame "I like pancakes!" "So you hate waffles?" Same energy. Play what you have fun playing. Whether you play Marathon now or not has no impact on a potential D3. That ship has sailed. I hope D3 does happen, but that has nothing to do with playing Marathon if you like it.

Idk, actively campaigning against a game out of spite seems really childish to me. I’m not trying to force anyone to play or like Marathon. But it is actually a really good game and I’d hate for the people who DO love it to end up having their game struggle just because negative sentiment is so strong among the people who aren’t engaged with it. Both things can be true at once. You can be gutted that Destiny is ending. And you can just quietly not be interested in Marathon too. You can campaign in favor of Destiny’s future and I’m 100% with you in that effort. And you can also not add fuel to the flames when it comes to campaigning against Marathon.

@rose_arbor @MarathonTheGame Where are you going with this? At the moment THERE IS NO D3 and whether you play Marathon or not that doesn't change. Boycotting Marathon is more likely to just collapse Bungie. The petition is a more effective vector to support a D3. But if you LIKE Marathon, you should play it.

@rose_arbor @MarathonTheGame Destiny alone couldn't fund the op costs of the studio. Why do you think they sold themselves to Sony? Bungie's coffers were dry and the studio was going to enact layoffs or collapse entirely. And I'm not comparing anything, just saying the two games are different rev streams.

@MChordant @MarathonTheGame Destiny was bungie's only IP and the reason they had 6 other incubation projects in development. Don't sit here and tell me that Destiny did not fund Marathon. That's a lie. You wanna compare revenue streams? Destiny Edge of Fate had over 100,000 players. Marathon? 80,000.

@rose_arbor @MarathonTheGame Both games have their own rev stream, it's how businesses are run. It's why some products die and others live, even if they're from the same company. The business might choose to siphon funds for other projects, but a business will still consider the revenue streams separate.

@MChordant @MarathonTheGame And to your other point, no, they are not serparate revenues. Destiny money funded Marathon. Marathon has done shit all for Destiny

@rose_arbor @MarathonTheGame There many more live service games that are dead than those living. And you literally just said you bought Marathon in hopes of more Destiny content. If you bought it to support Marathon then I hope you're playing. Perhaps you're refusing out of spite. But hey, your money I guess

@MChordant @MarathonTheGame I signaled my support for Bungie AND Marathon by buying their fucking game... and they trashed Destiny. Plenty of live service games still going, so that's a trash take. There is no other Destiny competitor to fill the void. So no. Destiny 3, or I'm done & so is Bungie.

@rose_arbor @MarathonTheGame Game is still there. Live services nearly always come to an end. The revenue streams for these games are separate. Buy Marathon and MTX there to signal support for Marathon. Or do the same for D2 if that's what you wanna support. Both support Bungie as a whole.

@MarathonTheGame I bought Marathon in the hopes of more Destiny content and supporting Bungie. I bought every Destiny expansion, gave generously to Tess in the hopes of more Destiny content... and instead of investing in Destiny, you guys shut down my favorite game, took the money, and ran.

Dmg’s great sins: - an enthusiastic tweet about the team trying making the game better going forward - saying there would be a roadmap that he never ended up being given by the studio -blocking some people who were annoying and/or abusive Dmg is a king (all comms are)
