Christ, beauty and capitalism ❤️being Catholic.

A couple things. First, when he says we respect life from conception to natural death, THAT is the doctrine of the Church. It’s then his opinion (not dogma) that capital punishment is wrong. As a Catholic, you’re not required to agree with the Pope’s political or pastoral opinions. Pope Francis also held this opinion so it’s not new. I actually agree with him on that though, because the error rate in death sentence convictions in the U.S. is too high and has resulted in too many innocent people being unjustly put to death. It’s a different concept for evangelicals/Prots, but the Pope can’t unilaterally change church doctrine the way pastors can in Prot churches. It’s certainly frustrating when a Pope is politically liberal, but just like Obama couldn’t unilaterally change the Constitution when he was president and we didn’t reject the Constitution because he was president, likewise with the Pope, thank the Lord the dogmas of the Catholic Church were in the beginning, are now, and ever will be unchangeable by humans.

Hegseth calls US allies in Europe and Asia “freeriders.” “America and the free world deserves allies who are capable and loyal… Europe needs the Strait of Hormuz much more than we do.”

🇫🇮🇨🇳🇷🇺 China has to leave Russia, or Finland will veto any EU-China free trade agreements. – Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen gives Beijing an ultimatum. Meanwhile, Finland today has fallen to the worst performing EU state, due to self imposed sanctions on Russia. - Shortages of oil and gas - Decline in Tourism (Russians making up the most) - Cities on the border with Russia shrinking away without spending visitors - Highest unemployment in the EU But yeah, let's now pick a fight with China.

🇨🇺 🇺🇸 Cuba just publicly confirmed it's in direct talks with the United States... President Miguel Diaz-Canel broke the silence: Cuban officials have "in fact recently held conversations with representatives of the government of the United States" to seek a solution to bilateral differences. He invoked the Obama-Castro precedent directly, referencing the only other modern moment Cuba opened this door. This follows the secret U.S. delegation that landed in Havana days ago. Starlink on the table. Political prisoner releases demanded. Compensation for seized American property. And a blunt warning that the island's economy is in free fall. Cuba refused this deal for 65 years. Now the regime is publicly acknowledging the conversation. Media: @nextnews

This chart from the Financial Times tells you more about China's future than any GDP forecast. The top chart shows working-age populations (ages 20-69) for China, the US, and India from 1950 to 2100. China's line peaks around 2015 at roughly 1 billion and then drops off a cliff. By 2100 it converges near the US line, around 200 million workers. The US barely moves. India keeps climbing well past where China peaked. The bottom chart is arguably more alarming. It shows the share of population in the key productive age range of 15 to 64. China's line is already falling faster than Japan, Europe, and the US, and by 2100 it is projected to drop to roughly 40%, the lowest of any major economy shown. Here is what those lines actually mean in real numbers. China's total fertility rate has collapsed to approximately 1.0, half the 2.1 needed to sustain a population. UN projections put China's total population at 633 to 782 million by 2100, down from 1.4 billion today. The working-age population specifically is projected to fall to just 210 million by 2100, one fifth of its 2014 peak. By that point, every 100 working-age Chinese will need to support 137 elderly people, up from 21 today. In 2024, people over 60 already exceeded 310 million for the first time in Chinese history. Japan, Europe, and the US are all aging. But none of them are aging at this speed, from this starting point, with this fertility rate, and with this little immigration. The CCP spent decades engineering a one-child policy to slow population growth. It is now spending billions trying to reverse a demographic collapse it created. So far, the money has not moved the needle. China does not just face an economic challenge. It faces a structural contraction of the human capital that every economy runs on. #China #Demographics #Population #Economy #CCP #Geopolitics #GlobalEconomy #India

We need single-payer health care. I've looked at the numbers, and there's no other way to bring costs down.

Ramesh's final chemotherapy treatment is tomorrow. In your charity, please pray for @RameshPonnuru this week--that his health will be completely restored. He is deeply loved, as our friends and family have demonstrated so well over these last eight months. ❤️🙏
