It brings me great joy to share my new @JCO_ASCO article on how mutant TP53 drives poor outcomes in DLBCL. I sincerely hope that this work will lead to improved therapies for patients with this aggressive disease. ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JC…

🔬 Not all TP53-mutated DLBCL behaves the same Higher TP53 variant allele frequency (≥75%) linked to significantly worse outcomes, while R-CHOP + ibrutinib showed potential to overcome high-risk biology in trial analyses. 🔹 Uppal et al | @JCO_ASCO 🔗 ascopost.com/news/may-2026/…

This elegant study should inform lymphoma classification and trials focusing on TP53-mutant and high-VAF DLBCL. Future studies should explore whether these concepts are valid in other histologies with TP53 mutations such as MCL and CLL. @JCO_ASCO ascopubs.org/doi/full/10.12…

Also, incredibly fitting that I get to share this while in attendance at the 20th International p53 Workshop in Toronto @SickKidsNews.

This work was a labor of love for me over a period of 5 years, primarily during my internal medicine residency. Infinite gratitude to my mentors and co-authors on this project, and of course to all of our patients.

@DrSarahAxelrath Had a patient in residency in the CCU who had Takotsubo’s on the 1 year anniversary of her husband’s death. Admitted with concern for STEMI. Def possible.

Azacytidine, our fantastic hypomethylating agent, used for treatment of MDS and AML, was discovered in 1964, and then fell into oblivion. Almost 40 years later it was FDA approved as the first effective MDS treatment. A 🧵about an unusual revival:

@GongDennis Do you think if you abrogate this MDSC/monocyte-derived macrophage contribution with anakinra, you could constrain the development of the NRP program?

@GongDennis appear to be the case in PDAC as shown by you here. Surely there is histology-specificity in the events required to develop this phenotype, but maybe a unifying factor is wound-healing and IL-1 driven inflammation...

Excited to share some more work from our lab @DrWilliamHwang @andrewaguirremd @gojimmyguo The emerging cancer neuroscience field studies tumor nerve interactions, but what about neural properties in cancer cells themselves? Epithelial cancers can express 'neural' genes, but why?
