Believed is a project I’ve poured my heart and soul into for the past year. It comes from my friendship with a survivor of sexual assault, and it’s my way of offering support to her and to others impacted by this crime. Free versions at my website! amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09HFX…

@MKeenerWrites One of my intentions is to stop putting time or effort into this platform. It brings little but discouragement.

Do you choose a word/intention for the year? Feel like sharing? I’d love to hear it. Mine is: Scars There’s a long explanation on my IG if you’re interested, but, in a nutshell, scars testify to both wounding & healing.

If you haven’t read Believed yet or listened to the audiobook, will you put it on your list for 2024? This is the most important book I’ve written. God put it on my heart. I want to share it with You! michaeljamesemberger.com/believed

Jesus heals. He loves. He saves when hope is lost. It’s an incredible privilege to be involved with that, and I wish more men could see. God gave us hearts. Jesus showed us how to love our sisters. The need is so great, and we can help. But “someone else” will do it, right? Who?

@MEmbergerAuthor @JennMGreenberg My 22 year old son now lives with me. He has been hospitalized twice for depression and is on meds that he will probably need his entire life. I now am in a Godly church with great people, and thank God daily for them. I am looking forward to reading your book. ThanksForSharing!

I’ve received several apologies and messages of support from SBC pastors in light of the amicus brief, not because it affected me directly, but because I’m a child abuse survivor and they were thoughtfully concerned about how the news might affect me. Obviously, I don’t speak for all victims or survivors, but the news didn’t surprise me whatsoever and was not a disappointment. I have come to expect the church to be morally delinquent, particularly on this front. I expect them to support abusers, to throw victims under the bus, and to enable further abuse whether they intend to or not. They are predisposed to a pattern of negligence and sin. It is a pattern I have seen all my life in multiple denominations, particularly the OPC and PCA (because I grew up in them). The SBC is not particularly corrupt. Rather, the church as a whole has enough abusers in power that they are influencing and enacting policies, cultural standards, and theological teachings. Abuse has become, not just the norm, but the standard. Doctrines and ideals that enable abuse have become so common and broadly accepted and for so long that even good men can’t discern them. These ideas, attitudes, priorities, and doctrines are what they grew up with, what they learned in seminary, and what all their friends and colleagues affirm. It has gotten so bad in many circles, that most church leaders relate more with the abuser than with the victim. They understand the perspective of the violent and perverse better than the perspective of the hurt and afraid. They love the criminal more than the child. They preach “love the sinner, hate the sin,” but completely forget and even resent the one who sin has harmed. They are all hypocrites. I suppose we all are to one degree or another, but when it comes to protecting and defending children, we cannot afford to lie to ourselves. We have to admit and confront how pervasive, rotten, and lethal this spiritual cancer is. It is not going away. It must be eradicated. I have offered to support and advise top leaders in several denominations, including the SBC, free of charge. So far, not one has taken me up on it. I personally think this is because they want to establish committees made up of “experts” and “influencers” to “investigate,” produce “reports,” enact “policies,” and generally look busy for PR purposes rather than work on their own personal shortcomings and blindspots. I say this not to be cynical or critical. It’s just human nature. We all have sinned and we all fall short, and until we get that through our dense noggins, all we are capable of is harm.

#WritingCommunity I’m in California and just dropped $100 into my gas tank and it wasn’t even on empty. Gahhhh! How much does it cost you to fill up your tank?

You might see her smile, but do you see the wounds inside her soul? The photos she doesn’t post? The trauma that haunts her? The nights she can’t stop crying? The pain, isolation, and betrayal? See her. Pray for her. Help her. Show her love. #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth

@KlauraLenda @freedomsbride @johnnarae For all of you: I took this thread as comparing the advocacy of tweeting alone vs. engaging in private allyship and speaking from that. I'm not heard here without help, but I publish free books to encourage survivors. They come from relationships and a heart God broke for you.

I’m just going to be blunt. Making Twitter statements when you have the means and connections to have meaningful/effective dialogue is not advocacy. I’m not talking about survivors I’m talking about Twitter advocates contributing to the dysregulation of a vulnerable community. 1/

What do you do when you’re an author and God breaks your heart for a cause? I’ve written 3 books on this subject. I hope to encourage survivors and make whatever difference I can. I hope that others will read, listen, and care about this too. michaeljamesemberger.com

@katieemorann Would you take it differently if he said "Climb out of the survivor theme..."? Either way, he's criticizing what you're doing and telling you to move on. It's not helpful. You're not wrong to take it negatively.
