This is not a victory Based on Govt data we know Muslims/ racialised groups are more likely to have PAVA (pepper spray) used against them in adult prisons No reason why this won’t be repeated in prisons for children where over 50% are from Black/brown communities

I will always ensure our staff have the tools they need to protect themselves and young people in custody. The rollout of PAVA incapacitant spray to the youth estate is crucial to preventing serious harm and tackling unacceptable violence against frontline officers. gov.uk/government/new…

Justice Secretary @ShabanaMahmood just announced tasers will be trialled in prisons after pressure from the prison officers’ union. In a structurally racist system, Black and brown people already face unequal use of force and abuse in prisons. This will only create more harm.

Muslims are more likely to have force used against them in prisons than non-Muslims which involve pain-inducing techniques Our data shows that proper scrutiny of this state sanctioned violence is missing and points to an unequal justice system theguardian.com/society/2025/a…

Wonderful to join @Maslaha’s Muslim Girls Fence session at Sandringham Primary ahead of #IWD2025. With Go! London funding, they’re piloting these sessions in primary schools for the first time, helping young girls build confidence, resilience, and well-being through sport.

☪️ As Ramadhan approaches, young people look forward to a time of joy & community. But for many Muslim students, it also means facing more Islamophobia in schools. We asked students & families what they'd like schools to know, or do, about Ramadhan ⬇️ maslaha.org/Project/ramadh…

🚨 BIG NEWS! 🚨 Announcing THE FIRST JASMINES by @saimabgm—winner of the @MFestUK short story competition! In 1971, two Bengali sisters are captured by Pakistani soldiers. In a heartbreaking story of silence and survival, they must make their way back from an unspoken violence.

The relationship with your loved ones are some of the most precious ways to support your mental health whilst in prison. Families and friends being unsure on how to navigate the prison system can have a negative impact on these relationships.

As #IslamophobiaAwarenessMonth ends, let's keep talking about the 18% of the prison population that's Muslim. What is the impact on our community’s wellbeing, safety, and future to be stripped of so many, especially young people? Read more in UnCaptured: maslaha.org/Project/uncapt…

As #IslamophobiaAwarenessMonth ends, we ask: how do we challenge and overcome Islamophobia? Our Muslim brothers in prison teach us the value of building community in the face of discrimination, systemic violence and harm:

We know how racism in schools and Islamophobic policies like #Prevent harm young people's mental health, creating a culture of censorship and criminalisation. While we push the Govt to #TakeRacismSeriously, schools can act now - explore our resources: maslaha.org/Project/buildi…

As schools return there is a danger the response to racism on the streets will lack the courage of critical anti-racist education Tow the Govt line of a tolerant British society Our children have seen and experienced to much violence and our education should reflect that

Students return to school after a summer of racist violence - but Govt’s guidance fails to address the root causes of this, focusing instead on ‘fake news’ & ‘extremism’. We need real anti-racist education that tackles structural inequalities. Start here: maslaha.org/Project/buildi…

In our #MuslimGirlsFence session we discussed the upcoming elections and the girls' demands for anti-racist education & policies. They're calling for an end to Prevent and a reimagining of what safety, support & care looks like in schools. No more police in schools! ✊🏾📢

It’s heartbreaking to be in a room of children who realise they can talk about Palestine and won’t be punished The initial nervousness and then joy as they can express themselves without censorship It’s shameful that Govt guidance is turning are schools into places of fear
Maslaha@Maslaha

In our Schools With Roots workshop we heard how schools are refusing to engage with parents abt Gaza We heard how children as young as 5 are silenced and seen as problems if they mention Palestine We need anti-racist spaces where children can express freely without censorship

Our recent Schools With Roots session highlighted the key role of linking home and school learning. Parents & children swapped insights on the cultural meanings of flags and how anti-racist education allows children to be able to embrace their identity and express themselves 🎨
