Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township near Detroit—the largest Reform synagogue in the U.S.—was the target in an attack where the suspect rammed his vehicle into the building, drove down a hallway towards the preschool, and ignited a fire before guards fatally shot him. No students or staff among the 140 children in the early childhood center were harmed, and temple officials called the guards heroes. One guard was injured but expected to recover; the fire was contained with no ongoing threat. We are grateful to the armed security who immediately responded and eliminated the threat. We are also grateful for all law enforcement and first responders.

We pray for all those impacted by the tornado near Union City, Michigan. We are hearing of at least three fatalities as search and rescue operations continue. We also pray for the safety of our first responders and everyone on scene.
