In our latest article, we demonstrate that:
(i) Zn speciation is not a reliable predictor of fertiliser Zn effectiveness;
(ii) a coated barrier between P and Zn improves plant Zn uptake,
(iii) Zn water solubility is maximised by decreasing granule pH.

@donflaten1 And it’s important to address it early and not leave it until subsoils have acidified as that is very difficult to rectify - add neutralising agents (i.e. lime) regularly.

Another wise comment from Ross McKenzie ... this issue of soil acidification applies across the Canadian Prairies and North America's Great Plains ... "careful monitoring" is important ... another reason for regular soil testing and tracking soil quality.

For Soil Conservation Wk- Surface soil pH is slowly declining in all soil zones in AB. Careful monitoring to understand the rate & extent of the problem is needed; then management recommendations are needed before soil acidification becomes a serious issue affecting soil health!
