I have often asked myself how the world has allowed girls and boys to be denied the ability to come into puberty; have their reproductive and sexual organs removed and mutilated; how it has allowed for children and infants to be trafficked and sold, or how countless pedophiles and child abusers continue to walk free despite evidence of their crimes. But then i remember that it is the same world that has allowed 50,000 boys and girls in Gaza to be injured and killed, and to be hunted and tortured for sport as reported here - over the period of two years. I then remember that the world and governments do not care about children that much after all. They have “dechilded” them a long time ago. Our experiences and the experiences of our children are all related and interconnected. The appalling disregard for the rights and lives of children in one corner of the world is indicative of a wider trend beyond that one place. More alarmingly, its repercussions will also revibrate world-wide, further eroding the rights and protections of children everywhere.
