THEY TOLD ME TO STOP PRAYING 🙏 Maya Johnson, a US Army soldier deployed to Iraq (2019–2021) in convoy security. she was mocked as “Church Girl” for praying before every mission, yet God protected her and her entire unit. Maya grew up Pentecostal and took her faith seriously—she brought prayers, worship songs, and even anointing oil to Iraq. From the very first day, before every mission, she would sit in her truck and pray out loud with her team. Not everyone appreciated it. Teammates (including atheists and Buddhists) laughed at her and called her “Church Girl.” One soldier even told her to her face, “I don’t wanna hear your prayers, Maya. Keep that to yourself.” She replied, “Well, I’m still gonna pray. You don’t have to listen, but I’m doing it.”She refused to stop. And through mission after mission in war zones full of ambushes and IEDs, her team was never hit by a bomb while she was with them. Then she got punished for being a “hothead” and was pulled off convoy duty. The moment she stopped going with them, the team started getting hit by bombs every time—as if the protection had lifted. Her team leader eventually came to her and said, “Hey, can you come back out? We keep getting hit, and we need your protection. Whatever you’re praying, it’s working.” She returned, and the attacks stopped. One mission stood out: about six months in, she was exhausted from long shifts and nearly falling asleep at the wheel. She drove right over a bomb… but it didn’t detonate. She kept going. A truck coming the opposite way hit the same bomb and exploded, killing the two soldiers inside. After that, she went all in. She set up speakers in her truck and blasted Pentecostal worship music loud—“Black-Church-Sunday-morning loud.” Teammates complained, but she told them, “Hey. You’re gonna get hit, but I ain’t gonna get hit. You may not want these prayers, but I guarantee you this: We ain’t getting touched.” Maya came home safely with her entire unit—300 soldiers, not one death—in the middle of a dangerous war zone. She ended her testimony with this powerful message: “To everyone who’s ever been called Church Girl or Church Boy or too much or too religious, keep praying. You have no idea whose life depends on it.” This story has been shared widely on Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms in the past week, with people praising God for His protection through prayer. It’s a beautiful reminder that faithfulness in the face of mockery can literally save lives. Thank you, Maya, for sharing your testimony—God is faithful! If you’d like links to the original video clips or more details, just let me know.

World Vision Rwanda Staff Learned the History of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi at the Nyanza Genocide Memorial The Nyanza Genocide Memorial stands as a powerful reminder of the tragic events of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. It commemorates the victims who were killed after the withdrawal of UN peacekeepers from ETO Kicukiro on April 11, 1994. Following their departure, thousands of Tutsi who had sought protection were abandoned and left vulnerable to attacks. Many fled to Nyanza Hill, where they were brutally massacred. Today, the memorial serves as the final resting place for approximately 105,000 victims, including more than 3,000 who were killed at this very site. It also holds the remains of victims brought from other parts of Kicukiro District. The memorial includes mass graves, monuments inscribed with the names of victims, and a Garden of Memory, all dedicated to honoring those who lost their lives. Beyond remembrance, the memorial plays a vital role in education and commemoration. It is an important site during Kwibuka and is used by schools, community groups, and organizations to learn about the genocide, hear survivor testimonies, and reflect on the importance of unity and peace. The memorial and its Garden of Memory are part of post-1994 efforts to preserve history and ensure that the memory of the victims continues to live on. Through this visit, staff from @WVRwanda learned the importance of remembering the past, promoting peace, and working together to prevent such atrocities from ever happening again. #Kwibuka32

🙏GRATEFUL🙏 The journey I started back in 2022 with just a concept has matured into Rwanda's most popular weekly podcast, 'The Long Form'. The conversation's that I've had are my attempt to better inform Rwandans, friends of Rwanda, East Africans and Africans as a whole about the Rwanda (and world) they live in. To survive and thrive in these times, information is key. This is my view The dream of a united Africa cannot come to pass unless we talk to each other and learn from each other's experience. That is why over the last two years, I've travelled to Uganda and Kenya to speak with though leaders, journalists, artists and politicians. We CANNOT wait for foreign voices to define how we see each other as Africans. Unfortunately, since independence, Africans have only seen, and heard, from each other through the lenses of the BBC, CNN, CCTV, Al Jazeera and Deutsche Welle. SABC's attempt to create a Pan-African news organisation sadly came to nought. Why? Because it was too expensive! Only external media could afford to pay foreign correspondent, buy expensive camera and operate global satellite systems. But that isnt the case today. With two microphones, a mixer, three cameras, two lights and editing software, you can create content that used to be the preserve of major media. And with Youtube, you can literally reach billions of people globally. You just need content and an internet connection. Partnership is Key! One of the things that I've learnt living in Rwanda and working alongside other Rwandans to build the country, is the power of collaboration. You go much further when you work with like-minded partners. That is why I've chosen to partner with Next Media. Next Media created the AfroMobile app, a one-stop space for live television, radio and podcasts. All geared towards the African audience. On it you shall find East African tv channels like NBS TV, Rwanda TV and K24. You shall also be able to enjoy live radio and exclusive music content. And you shall find The Form Podcast! By partnering with Next Media, I am partnering with an organization that not only believes in highlighting African voices, it believes that Africa's best days are coming. What should the Long Form audience expect from this partnership? More conversations with more Africans. The aim is for The Long Form to become a space where Africans (and friends of Africa) can share their stories. @TheLongFormRw @afromobileug @nextmediaug @LFMEDIA_rw

1. Do not ask anyone about a parent, partner, sibling, friend, or ex they don’t talk about. They are healing; don’t trigger them. 2. If someone says they don’t like a “joke” you make about them, stop. It is not your place to decide what they find funny about themselves. 3. Don’t visit anyone unannounced. 4. When you want to get a stranger’s attention, don’t touch them. Speak—they can hear you. Always keep your hands to yourself. 5. Don’t video call anyone you are not very close to without asking for permission, even if you are close. 6. When you see someone dealing with pimples, acne, or other skin conditions, don’t comment on it. They have a mirror at home, and they are doing something about it. 7. The only time you should comment on anyone’s body weight is when you want to compliment them sincerely. “You have lost so much weight” and “you have gained weight” are not compliments. 8. If you approach anyone, the first thing you should do is greet them, regardless of age, gender, race, or status. 9. If a friend makes a big purchase, gives birth, or is celebrating something big and shares it with you privately, it is not your place to post it on social media unless they ask you to. 10. Learn to say thank you when anyone does something for you. No matter how small it seems, if you didn’t do it yourself, say thank you—and mean it. 11. Do not eat around a starving person. If you cannot afford to buy for them too, go somewhere else to eat. It is basic decency. 12. When someone is talking, don’t cut them off. Allow them to finish. If you must interrupt, be polite by saying, “I’m sorry for cutting you off…”
