🇳🇬 JUST IN: House Minority Caucus Confirms ILLEGAL ALTERATIONS to Gazetted Tax Laws The House of Representatives Minority Caucus Ad-hoc Fact-Finding Committee has confirmed that unauthorised alterations were made to some tax reform laws after they were passed by the National Assembly and assented to by Bola Tinubu. The 7-member committee, chaired by Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, disclosed this in its interim report released on January 23, 2026, following allegations of discrepancies between bills passed by lawmakers and versions later gazetted. According to the committee, the most significant alterations were found in the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA), 2025, where up to three different versions of the law are now in circulation. Only one version aligns with the Certified True Copies (CTCs) officially issued by the House of Representatives. The report identified changes to key provisions, including Section 39(3), reductions in tax reporting thresholds, insertion of new financial obligations such as mandatory deposits, and amendments affecting the oversight powers of the National Assembly. The committee stated that the changes occurred after legislative passage and presidential assent, describing them as illegal post-assent modifications. It added that investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible, warning that the alterations could undermine the validity of affected sections of the laws. More details to follow.
