@oma22k He recharged about 100k on Access cos we weren’t able to temporarily block the account fast enoughTheir customer care guys goofed, the guy even logged her out of WhatsApp from her phone. Funny enough the simcard was with her but wasn’t inserted into a phone that was the mistake.

@oma22k It happened to a relative based in the UK last year. The number has been her main line for over 12years before relocating and is the one linked to her BVN. The fraud guy debited her Access, GT and fidelity. We were able to block GT after he had recharged about 20k.

So apparently, keeping your physical SIM card is not enough again. My friend relocated to the UK but still had her Nigerian SIM with her. Unknown to her, the line had been inactive for too long, so the network reassigned the number to someone else. Meanwhile, that same number was still linked to her bank account. The new owner first did a “test run” by buying ₦100 airtime from the account. It worked. Then ₦5k. ₦10k. Before she woke up to multiple debit alerts. What even scared me more was that the person also tried accessing her WhatsApp because they now officially owned the number. A lot of people abroad still think that as long as they physically have their SIM card, the number is safe. Apparently not. Please, if your number is linked to your bank account, BVN, WhatsApp, email, or anything important, don’t abandon it for months or years without activity. This thing is actually scary.

the day i confirmed mtn’s wickedness was when i found out they steal data from you even when you’re on wifi. i’m always home so im on wifi all the time but i still buy 3.5gb daily just incase i need to step out. last week i went to kilimanjaro to buy lunch, came back home to wifi. that whole process was nothing more than 40mins. came back home to wifi. tell me why mtn was telling me i had just 500mb left????
