We are delighted to see the “Çağrı Bey” ultra-deepwater drilling vessel set sail to the maritime areas where it will explore our rich resources, carrying with it our hopes for a more prosperous future. Through the strong leadership of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the dedicated efforts of our institutions, this carefully built process stands as a testament to cooperation. It is our greatest hope that it will bring prosperity and abundance to the people of both nations. On this occasion, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our esteemed Presidents. I also extend my sincere thanks to my brother, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, as well as to all institutions and individuals who have contributed to this important endeavor. Today in Baidoa, I held a consultative meeting with women leaders and community members to listen to their perspectives, challenges, and priorities. Their voices are essential in shaping inclusive policies that respond to the realities faced by Somali women. In my remarks, I outlined key achievements of the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development over the past year, including the 30% women’s quota in electoral and political party laws, and progress on legislation addressing violence against women, FGM, and family rights. I also shared our forward priorities and called for unity and collective action to advance women’s empowerment and overcome shared challenges.

I had the honor of participating in a meeting dedicated to supporting and recognizing the vital role of women serving in the Somali Police Force—a powerful testament to the growing participation and leadership of women across the Somali Armed Forces. In my remarks, I commended all members of our Armed Forces, particularly those on the frontlines, for their unwavering service and sacrifice. I reaffirmed that women in uniform embody the strength, resilience, and leadership of Somali women, and I took the opportunity to highlight the Federal Government’s continued commitment to advancing women’s empowerment across all sectors. I extend my sincere appreciation to H.E. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag and Brig. Gen. Asad Osman Abdullahi for their steadfast leadership in promoting the role of women within the Police Force.

We’ve concluded a highly engaging 2-day retreat hosted by UN-Habitat with the African Diplomatic Corps. The retreat comes at a critical moment as we prepare for key global milestones incl; 1st session of 2026 Executive Board, 2nd #Africa Urban Forum, 13th World Urban Forum (Baku) the High-Level Meeting on the New Urban Agenda in New York, High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) and #COP31, Antalya, Türkiye What stood out most was the shared commitment across Africa: strengthening coordination, shaping a unified continental position on housing and human settlements and addressing the realities of rapid urbanization with practical, lasting solutions. Somalia, in its role as co-chair of the Open-Ended Working Group on Adequate Housing for All alongside #Azerbaijan, had the opportunity to present progress and outline upcoming priorities. This includes the first intersessional expert-level meeting at WUF13 in #Baku, focused on housing and climate resilience, an issue that continues to define our urban future and Second African Urban Forum (#AUF2), focusing on housing compact, innovative housing financing methods by PPPs, transformation of informal settlements and most especially a dedicated session for the OEWG-H. These conversations were policy discussions that reflected our collective determination to act.
