International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances (IDOD), is observed annually on 30 August, was established following the adoption of UN General Assembly Resolution 65/209 on 21 December 2010. By the same resolution the General Assembly welcomed the adoption of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances, which entered into force on 23 December 2010. Every year, this day is an opportunity to remember and honour those who have been forcible disappeared, to stand in solidarity with their families, and to raise awareness about this human rights violation. #IDOD2025

"Despite the risks, our colleagues continue to show up, not because they are fearless, but because the suffering is too urgent to ignore. Yet, courage is not protection, and dedication does not deflect bullets." This statement on World Humanitarian Day is attributed to @ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric and IFRC President @KateForbes_IFRC on the increasing attacks against humanitarian personnel. #ProtectHumanity Read the full statement here 👉🏽 ms.spr.ly/6011spAv9

Staying neutral allows us to do our job. It is not indifference: it is a deliberate choice. Our mission comes from the Geneva Conventions, universal laws that preserve a degree of humanity, even in war. Today, 162 years since our founding, neutrality remains as crucial as ever.

War should never reach homes. Across West Africa, communities kept fighting away from villages to protect civilians. IHL echoes this: spare the population, shield the vulnerable. To learn more: bit.ly/4jZ4qUE #AfricanValuesInWar
