I’ve been a big fan of what @united is doing in general, but from what I’ve heard (via other passengers and flight attendants), it seems they didn’t renew their Panasonic contract for widebodies while Starlink is rolled out. I’m pumped about Starlink and will seek out United once I know it’s available (had it this week and it was awesome). Until then, however, no Internet, particular on transoceanic flights, is unacceptable and a very poor choice by United’s management. I’ll be flying someone else for those for now.
Sam Liccardo@sliccardo

I’ve just endured my third consecutive long-haul flight on @united with no WiFi. I’ve just decided to choose any other airline available, even if I have to connect to DC through New Zealand.

@benthompson @united it's definitely, definitely not true that: "[United] didn’t renew their Panasonic contract for widebodies while Starlink is rolled out."

I get that Preece admitted it and Kyle didn’t, but it shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know Kyle’s was blatantly intentional too. If it’s THAT obvious from footage or data then they should be able to hand a penalty down with or without driver comments.
Jeff Gluck@jeff_gluck

NASCAR issued a penalty for retaliation at the Texas race, but not the one you may think: Ryan Preece docked 25 points and fined $50k for wrecking Ty Gibbs. However…and this is obviously going to become a big topic…Kyle Busch NOT penalized for wrecking John Hunter Nemechek.

Could see a practice in the rain but likely not qualifying as the conditions could be very different for each of the two groups.
HighLineBetting@HighLineBetting

@bobpockrass Bob would NASCAR let them practice and qualify in the rain?

@Acyn Would have lost two airlines if the merger happened. JetBlue is on the verge of bankruptcy reportedly but still alive at least.

Raddatz: You have said that was that the war was not an impetus in putting Spirit Airlines out of business but the CEO said that the sudden and sustained rise in fuel prices ultimately left them with no alternative. Duffy: They tried to merge with JetBlue, the Joe Biden-Pete Buttigieg administration tanked that deal.

Go read Spirit’s statement where they explicitly say the surge in fuel prices over the last TWO MONTHS & doubledl fuel costs directly caused them to cease operating. I don’t think you understand supply and demand or basic math. Nor can you read apparently. You haven’t even given a legitimate counter as to why my original statement about increased prices coming isn’t true. If Spirit had so much capacity as you say, why are so many people having to scramble to rebook cancelled Spirit flights today? If Spirit had so much capacity, then going under wouldn’t be a big deal would it? Debt and fuel costs did Spirit in, as they explicitly wrote in their statement, but think whatever you want. Stop being mad a girl is smarter than you and learn to read. Bye Felicia. ✌🏻👋🏻

I don’t think people understand what will happen if Spirit Airlines shuts down…it means bad news bears for everyone who seeks budget air travel or affordable air travel. Demand will rise in Spirit’s markets in their absence and the remaining airlines will immediately raise prices on their flights in those markets. Airfare is about to get significantly more expensive if Spirit bows out.

@traswizzle “Capacity has zero to do with it.” That tells me you have zero understanding about supply and demand. “Fuel has been expensive for over two months now.” Fuel jet fuel price 60 days ago was $2.40. Not expensive. Have a nice day.

Where have you been? Fuel has been expensive for over 2 months now. Spirit is spending an extra $10-15 mil per week on fuel vs what they originally budgeted, which is a significant contributor to them not surviving bankruptcy. It absolutely is a combination of high debt, unprofitable business model and surging fuel prices. Capacity has zero to do with it.

@traswizzle Yes, there is demand. But there can be too much capacity too. Fuel has only been expensive for a month and has nothing to do with Spirit’s failing. Spirit and Frontier made mistakes buying new, expensive planes that are too large to fill. There’s been too much capacity.

I disagree. There is demand for budget airlines, especially with Southwest’s changes. Consumers don’t see Southwest as affordable anymore. That left Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant. The budget airline industry is facing financial issues from long-term losses, high debt, and increased fuel expense. Not low demand and high supply.

@traswizzle There is too much supply in the market. That’s why Value Carrier market share has dropped in consecutive years for the first time. Value airline growth has decreased four consecutive years.

I do actually. In certain markets, Spirit has a sizable share, especially to places in the Caribbean and Florida. Additionally, consumers of Spirit are not the same consumers who fly Delta, American or United. Most people who fly Spirit can’t afford Delta, United or American. And Southwest has priced themselves out of the budget airline space. Allegiant and Frontier may takeover a few of Spirits routes, but neither have the planes or the staff to takeover all of Spirits markets. If they have to buy planes and hire staff to increase market share, their costs will rise and they will charge more to cover the increased cost. That’s how business works. When demand rises, and supply is limited, prices are driven up. That WILL happen if Spirit folds. Consumers will see prices rises because of this.

MLB expansion?? Charlotte, NC - Good option Montreal, CN - No to Canada Oakland, CA - Just lost their team, why go back? Nashville, TN - Best option Orlando, FL - can't fill seats in the other 2 FL baseball stadiums Portland, OR - disaster of a city Raliegh, NC - Decent option, very small market Sacramento, CA - Would cost $5B to build a $750M stadium Salt Lake City, UT - Good option, small market. Vancouver, CN - No to Canada If they were going to add 2 teams, I'd probably go with Nashville and either Salt Lake City or Charlotte.

@NascarPaint One of the best marketing investments in the sport’s history was Aaron’s sponsoring the free pass. So many people still call it the Lucky Dog years after they stopped paying for it.
