@RalphyHeraldSun If a team trades up to a top 5 pick do they get the compo pick? If yes, they shouldn’t, as they moved up knowing that if would be likely pushed back due to common knowledge of F/S and NGA picks

If Richmond bid on Doug Cochrane first & the Blues’ early selection shuffles back in the order before their Cody Walker bid the AFL has told them they would not receive a bonus second round pick like other clubs. Clubs now fully expecting this rule to come in for this year, with changes now imminent. It will see clubs who have top-five picks be given an end of first round selection if their top-five pick is shuffled back at least one spot by a matched father-son or Academy bid. @AFLcomau

If go back far enough, every club has benefited/been hurt by free agency, expansion rules, fixture imbalances etc. eg. Dogs lost Cal Ward in prime to GWS. How far do we go back? No point arguing past. It's not about 1 particular rule change. How do we make whole landscape fairer?

@JasonBennettTV It’s not really swing and round abouts in this scenario. Certain clubs have clearly benefited and the AFL were happy for them too and some are clearly being disadvantaged.

@MarkGottlieb @seanHPN If the top 5 are all affected by bids I thought the sequence to start the second round becomes 18,18(compo),17, 17(compo), 16,16(compo),15,15(compo). If so bidding once would be enough to trigger compo, why do it twice?

@seanHPN Richmond should pick Cochrane and Walker 1st and 2nd. They then get the player they want at #3 and a free pick #19 but their pick #20 stays there instead of moving back another spot.

@seanHPN Bid to force your own pick down seems to be allowed? But ‘clubs own natural first round pick’ means you can’t swap from 1 to 3. Seems like part of this is designed to stop Carl or Port getting up ahead of Rich and getting a pick 1 and their academy guy.
