A month ago, I walked into the postnatal ward to visit a friend who had just had a baby. The first thing I noticed was that the baby had jaundice. I asked for a doctor's review and a serum bilirubin... bili was 3 boxes above the exchange transfusion line... at 12 hours of life .. No one recognised jaundice in this dark skinned baby. We need to have more conversations about early detection of jaundice in all babies, especially darker skinned ones Plan to attend this study day. Book your study leave now.
