The Speaker of Parliament @AnitahAmong is currently attending a landmark gathering of African Pastoralist Women at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
This gathering serves as a crucial precursor to the Global Pastoralist Women Gathering scheduled to take place in Nepal between May and June 2026. This global convergence will in turn feed into the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralism 2026, which will be officially marked in Mongolia in August 2026.
Uganda’s role in hosting this important dialogue is deeply significant. The country is among the signatories to the United Nations Resolution 76/253, which declared 2026 as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralism, an acknowledgment of the vital role pastoralist communities play in sustainable ecosystems, food security and cultural heritage.

25 years ago, an 11-year-old Jesse Kijjambu, bumped into the Makomas at then Nile Hotel & they not only took a photo, but Natalie also serenaded him with a piano performance. Imagine his excitement at a reunion yesterday at @VisionGroup & the shock of the Makomas when he produced that pic from quarter a century ago! Catch the Makomas this Friday at Kololo for #NVat40 concert. @newvisionwire @bukeddeonline #VisionUpdates

@ACME_Africa, the organisation that I co-founded 15 years to champion media excellence, has joined the growing list of Ugandan NGOs suspended by the National Bureau for NGOs over engaging in "activities which are prejudicial to the security and the laws of Uganda..."
Clearly, this is part of a broader effort to silence scrutiny of public affairs as Uganda heads into general elections. Now more than ever before the independent media must rise to the occasion and provide accurate and credible information about the elections, monitor official power, and the activities of other actors, and facilitate vibrant public debate. That's what ACME has always stood for.

Whatever crash there was on the Northern bypass on Saturday night - around 9 pm - must have been so nasty! Here is a dash cam of the aftermath.
We were headed to Entebbe but spent about an entire hour of zero motion, we were just there, stuck! I am sure many people missed their flights even when they left their homes within the allowable time to get to the airport.
However, I also saw the 'Ugandan spirit of bypassing the state to survive' that @cobbo3 talks about in motion. A driver of an Entebbe-bound 'Entebbe Express' Taxi, frustrated like everyone walked around a few times and then asked if it was possible to reroute some of the cars off the bypass back to town at the Masanafu bridge.
I thought the man was crazy. Well, he wasn't. Within a couple of minutes, he convinced enough crazy-idea-liking people into seeing his point: a movement of muscular men, and sweet-talking desperate ladies was formed.
I didn't realise how dead serious they were, until two of the ladies convinced the drivers of a trailer, and two Sino Trucks to reverse back and forth to create room for cars heading the wrong side of the road to pass. In a flash, there was enough space for smaller cars to manoeuvre back freely via Sentema Road. Within minutes, there was a traffic gridlock of cars leaving the bypass.
The group wasn't done. After all, a single line of cars wasn't moving fast enough to their liking, they embarked on creating a second line but were stopped by a Sienta parked on the road without a driver. All attempts to find the driver were futile. The sweet-talking women stepped aside; about seventeen muscular men lifted the Sienta from under, they carried it with little difficulty to create space and made it change direction. Fortunately, @PoliceUg came in and cleared the wreckage of accident - some hawkers said as many as seven cars were involved - and were back on the road to Entebbe.
I would pay to see the expression on the face of the Sienta driver who found their car facing the opposite direction, on another side of a road where cars cannot legally drive...

#FYI: A multi vehicle crash (involving about 4–5 vehicles, according to RTO Traffic, has occurred along the Kampala Northern Bypass [Masanafu towards Busega], disrupting traffic flow esp. for motorists heading to the Entebbe Expressway and the Busega–Mityana highway. Traffic Police currently on site, assisting with the evacuation. Traffic movement has been restored but remains slow along this area. @PoliceUg @MoWT_Uganda
