Another update on the tornadoes that impacted Mississippi: A total of 26 injuries have been reported due to the storm. This includes 22 in Lincoln County, three in Lamar County, and one in Franklin County. The Mississippi State Department of Health will be meeting with hospitals tomorrow to help assess the status of those injured.  Currently, there are approximately 1,460 power outages statewide, down from a high of about 20,100. Utility crews are working hard to restore power as quickly as possible. In Lincoln County, eight roads remain impassable due to debris. Damage assessments will take place tomorrow. Hinds, Covington, Jones, and Forrest counties, as well as @MSEMA, will support those efforts. The American Red Cross shelter in Brookhaven had an occupancy of zero overnight. Two POD sites continue to operate at the Bogue Chitto Fire Department and East Lincoln Fire Department. Feeding Operations continue at Bogue Chitto Fire Department, East Lincoln Fire Department, Auburn Road near Calvary Road, and Bogue Chitto Baptist Church. Samaritan’s Purse has started operating a volunteer intake organization site at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and will be holding orientations for volunteers at 7:30am and 12:30pm. These two orientations will run every day as necessary. Additionally, a donation intake center is located at: Lincoln County School District Building 702 Saints Trail NW Brookhaven, MS 39601 In Lamar County, damage assessments are complete, and EPAs continue to restore power. Debris continues be removed from roadways. A safe room has been moved to a standby status and is available to reopen if the need arises. The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse, MS Baptist Relief, Temple Baptist, and others are assisting Mississippians. At this time, there are no outstanding resource requests. In Franklin County, damage assessments are complete and roadways remain passable. The EOC has returned to normal operations and will continue to assist Mississippians as necessary. Thank you to all of the volunteers, first responders, utility crews, and emergency managers who are assisting in the recovery efforts. Our entire state is grateful to you.

Another update on the tornadoes that impacted Mississippi: Yesterday, I spoke with @SecMullinDHS about Mississippi’s response. Secretary Mullin assured me that the Trump Administration would assist our state in any way it can. Thank you to @POTUS @realDonaldTrump for setting up the call. Mississippi is grateful for your support as we recover. @MSEMA continues to coordinate and assist local operations in disaster management, damage assessments, and the deployment of resources. MEMA is closely coordinating with the Mississippi Civil Defense Emergency Management Association to assist in mutual aid response operations and deploy resources at the request of local emergency managers. Damage assessments are ongoing. These numbers will change as assessments continue, but so far, residential damage includes: 18 – Destroyed 22 – Major damage 32 – Minor damage 29 – Affected Thirteen businesses were impacted by the storm. Two were destroyed, six had major damage, and five had minor damage. Statewide, seven public roads and four public buildings were damaged. In Franklin County, MEMA deployed tarps and conducted drone aerial assessments. Damage assessments are expected to be completed today. The Mississippi Forestry Commission reported 600,000 tons of damage/debris in the Homochitto National Forest. All resource requests have been fulfilled. In Lamar County, damage assessments are complete. EPAs continue to restore power. The state of Mississippi has fulfilled all resource requests. In Lawrence County, damage assessments are complete and roadways have reopened. Lawrence County EMA returned to normal operations yesterday. In Lincoln County, road-clearing crews worked to remove debris. The Mississippi Forestry Commission and the State Emergency Operations Center continue to provide operational assistance. MEMA’s drone assessments are complete. The American Red Cross shelter has six occupants. Two POD sites are fully operational and a donation intake center will also open on Monday. The MEMA Business EOC has coordinated with emergency volunteer organizations and businesses on response needs. This includes temporary sheltering, water, food, and other disaster needs in the impacted counties. A HUGE thank you to all of the volunteers who are helping Mississippians recover from the storm. These organizations have greatly reduced the amount of state assets needed in this response. I’d especially like to thank everyone at Bogue Chitto Baptist Church (my grandmother’s wonderful church), Calvary Baptist Church, Bogue Chitto Volunteer Fire Department, Mississippi Baptist Association, Harmony Baptist, American Red Cross, United Cajun Navy, The Salvation Army, Mississippi Baptist Relief, and Samaritan’s Purse. Y’all are proof that regardless of what is thrown at our state, the Mississippi spirit will always remain undefeated. The state of Mississippi is in this for the long haul. Together, we will recover and rebuild.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to respond to the severe weather that impacted communities across Mississippi. Here is a look at some of the damage in Lamar and Lincoln Counties. We are grateful to everyone who wants to help during this recovery effort. MEMA encourages volunteers to avoid self-deploying and instead work through a verified organization or nonprofit already assisting in the affected areas. Coordinated volunteer efforts help ensure resources are used safely and effectively. Donations are also welcome. A list of needs, drop-off locations, and operating hours for those locations can be found here: msema.org/get-assistance…

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: MDOT crews are continuing cleanup efforts this morning after severe overnight storms in south Mississippi brought down trees and power lines, resulting in several road closures. Current closures include: • U.S. 51 between U.S. 84 and Monticello St. in Lincoln County is BLOCKED due to downed power lines and debris. • State Route 184 between U.S. 84 and SR 43 in Lawrence County is BLOCKED due to fallen utility lines across the roadway. • Portions of State Route 583 at Douglas Trail in Lincoln County remain BLOCKED as crews work to remove storm debris and restore safe passage. The public should avoid travel in these areas unless necessary and allow space for emergency responders, MDOT maintenance forces and utility crews to continue cleanup and restoration operations. Although I-55 between Brookhaven and Bogue Chitto is OPEN, drivers should anticipate temporary shoulder or lane closures as crews work to push remaining debris from the roadway. Please slow down and be on high alert for MDOT crews as they continue clearing debris. Their safety and yours depends on it! READ MORE: mdot.ms.gov/portal/news_re… @MSEMA @tatereeves #MShwys #MSwx

I want to provide an update on the storm that impacted Mississippi last night. As of now, 17 injuries have been reported. Initial damage assessments indicate: -275 homes and 50 apartment units are damaged or inaccessible in Lamar County. 30 roads are closed due to debris. The county shelter/safe room is open. American Red Cross support is available.  -More than 200 homes were damaged in Lincoln County. The Cajun Navy is deploying a 50-person shelter pod, 30KW generator, and 10 pallets of supplies. -12 homes were damaged in Lawrence County. Multiple roads are closed due to downed trees and power lines. These numbers are preliminary and will change as damage assessments continue.  @MSEMA is supporting damage and operations assessments.
