The blasts began shortly after 7:00 pm and targeted several locations. The main gate of UMTH, where MSF supports the Diphtheria Treatment Unit (DTU) was targeted in one of the attacks. No patient or staff in the DTU was injured in the incident.

“At the State Specialist Hospital, the emergency room was full of patients with traumatic injuries. We stabilised them, dressing wounds, and referred critical ones to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) where we had another team" Dr Kikwaya, MSF medical team leader.

Violent attacks continue in Tina, #Sudan, at the border w/ Chad. On 16 Mar, Doctors Without Borders & Chadian health authorities received 123 wounded people from across the border at a newly built hospital in Tine, #Chad. 17 died in hospital & 66 arrived in serious conditions.

Doctors Without Borders is adapting its programmes to respond, and is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving humanitarian needs.

On 16 March 2026, three suicide bomb attacks were reported in Maiduguri, Borno State, killing 23 people and injuring more than 100. @MSF sent medical teams to support local authorities in treating the wounded at two hospitals in Maiduguri where 108 patients are treated.

Israeli attacks continue to kill & injure people in Gaza despite the ceasefire. In the aftermath, patients will endure long-term, life-altering physical & psychological wounds. Doctors Without Borders is providing trauma, surgical & rehabilitative care, & mental health support.

The injured children lost their mother in the attack, who was pregnant with twins. “She was due in three months. Now, the kids lost both parents and their older sibling. The scene was horrific. Bodies flew in the air and shrapnel exploded everywhere,” says the children's aunt.

On 15 March 2026, Israeli strikes killed 13 people and injured many more during attacks in Deir-El-Balah, Gaza, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. In response, Doctors Without Borders teams treated nine patients at its field hospital.

Sleeping sickness is almost always fatal w/o treatment. For years, doctors had only arsenic-derived drugs that were toxic. Today, hope is emerging: Our partner organisation, DNDi, has recently had approval for a ground-breaking new drug, acoziborole, which can cure it w/ 1 dose.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, we continue to see attacks throughout the Gaza Strip. More than 618 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks since the ceasefire. There is no safety in Gaza, where the humanitarian situation remains catastrophic."
