Pierre Poilievre and JK Rowling are factually incorrect here. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that Imane Khelif, shown in the photo, is biologically female, was born and registered as female, and has lived and boxed as a female. She also holds a female passport.

The International Olympic Committee’s decision on women’s sports could mark an important cultural tipping point. For years, there’s been a sharp divide between popular and elite opinion on this issue. While most Americans support keeping men out of women’s sports, celebrities and elite institutions have largely either succumbed to gender ideology or stayed silent. But now the IOC, arguably the most powerful governing body in international sport, has realigned itself with reality. This could give other elites the “permission” they need to finally admit what everyone has always known: men and women have real biological differences. And those differences matter in sports. @PopCrave When you design a rule that applies to maybe 0.1% of athletes but the debate consumes 90% of the oxygen, is the policy about fairness or just picking a fight nobody asked for?

Transgender women will not be able to compete in women’s categories at the Olympics. Such categories have been limited to biological females determined by a “once-in-a-lifetime” sex test which will exclude trans women and people with differences in sexual development from competing.

@ThomasWillett9 Trans men are women. As long as they aren’t using performance enhancing drugs, they are welcome to compete with other women. Trans women are men, and as such aren’t permitted to compete with women but can still compete with other men. Completely fair.

The new Olympic rule bans only trans women from women’s events; trans men aren’t mentioned at all. If this were truly about fairness and safety, it would apply consistently. Targeting one specific group raises serious questions about the real motive.
