@DSeymoursLife I’m all for commercializing the forests in responsible manner. A lot of mountain towns rely on outdoor tourism.

Our area hasnt been this nice or crowded in all of my 44+ years. Im convinced USFS is working with the state and local counties to drive tourism, development, and gentrification. Our area has the potential to be a billion dollar tourism draw by commercialing its rivers, lakes and mountains. One of the fastest growing areas in the entire country.

@DSeymoursLife Most of the main service roads around Dahlonega are well maintained because of Camp Merrill (mountain phase of Ranger School for the Army), but some definitely require a high clearance vehicle.

Not sure. Before Helene, our trails and dirt roads were rutted and horrible. Tourism met walls of blow downs and 4x4 roads that hadnt been cleared in 30 years.. . After Helene, it was like the USFS and transplants rediscovered the area. Now our dirt roads have less potholes than the paved ones, the trails are clear, and Oconee wants to transition to a tourism based economy, by commercializing every last natural resource.
