@chadfelixg I have never encountered hatred from this movement for being gay. But I have encountered hatred from the left for my politics. Proud to be a part of this movement and thankful to have known Charlie as a friend for the short amount of time we had him.

Biden gave 1.5 million people temporary protected status. He ended the remain in Mexico policy, reversed Trump’s asylum cooperative agreements with third countries, paroled anyone caught entering illegally and allowed them to stay indefinitely. Those were all executive actions too. The “legislation” you refer to would not have reversed any of that, just give Biden a way to legalize all the people who shouldn’t have been here to begin with, and provide window dressing ahead of an election. If Biden wanted to make a difference, he could have reversed his own executive actions which caused the problem, or actually get serious by proposing legislation to limit defensive asylum applications, and expand expedited removals.

Thank you America. You went first. You showed the rest of us that right wing populists are full of shit, achieve nothing and will drag nations into the abyss. Your example might have saved Europe from a dangerous shift. Good luck in November, my friends! 🫡 You got this.

@noreasonbutinfo @fellaraktar Biden didn’t need Congress to pass additional laws; he could’ve used his executive authority to secure the border like Trump did within 100 days. But he didn’t want a secure border, just window dressing ahead of an election, after he created the border crisis to begin with.

@evan_draim @fellaraktar Biden put forth an immigration plan that was blocked by republicans because they wanted this as a campaign issue. It was Biden’s fault that he gave up after that. We admit that. We never blocked any effort to secure the border. It’s the cruelty in deportations we oppose.

@evan_draim @fellaraktar It’s never been about immigration for decent Americans. It’s the hate, racism, cruelty and corruption of MAGA that we cannot stand for. Just like Hungary. We want secure borders and have no problem with that.

Melissa Bell: The crowd was shouting 'Russians Out'. This was the cry of the Hungarian uprising back in 1956. Peter Magyar has won the supermajority of the Parliament, which will allow him to change the constitution. He vowed to return Hungary to the rule of law.

Lots of weird takes on the Hungarian election result from both left and right here. Peter Magyar is a socially conservative immigration restrictionist who wants to cut taxes and double the defence budget. He criticized Orban for admitting too many guest workers, and wants to increase Hungary's already generous pro-natal incentives. On virtually every issue, his platform is well to the right of centre, by European standards. His foreign policy is to end Orban's alliance with Putin, remove the Hungarian veto on EU loans to Ukraine, normalize relations with the European Union while opposing more Euro integration, and strengthen relations with Eastern Europe's anti-Russian governments, e.g. Poland. His election was not a sudden shift to the left, but a rejection of Orban's corruption, the failure of his interventionist / statist economic policies, and the humiliation of his relationship with Putin.

@ML3democrats Magyar promised to end Orban’s guest worker program and completely cut off all non-EU migration. He’s more right-wing on immigration than Orban. Are you suggesting we should have that in the United States too?

Liberal?!? Stop commenting on Hungarian politics when you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Magyar criticized Orban for letting migrant workers into Hungary. And he said that migrants were stealing ducks from the Budapest Zoo to eat them. Magyar is also a right wing populist, just more EU-friendly and not corrupt.

Congratulations to Péter Magyar on his victory in Hungary. The Hungarian people have sent the world a message by rejecting corruption & attacks on democracy today. A reminder for all who value democracy & freedom that the arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice.

@ThePoliticalHQ Why are you commenting on Hungarian politics when you clearly know nothing about the subject? Magyar is also a right wing populist. He criticized Orban for being too liberal on migration. There are no viable center-left parties left in Hungary. theironfairy.substack.com/p/in-hungarys-…

Viktor Orbán losing in Hungary honestly feels like a breath of fresh air. Nationalism and xenophobia work the same way every time; make people afraid, turn neighbors into enemies and blame outsiders for problems that come from bad leadership. It works for a while. Not forever. Looks like Hungarians got tired of it. Congrats to Peter Magyar. Picking accountability and democracy over fear isn’t some grand complicated choice. It’s just about trusting people more than propaganda.

@ThePoliticalHQ Magyar shares Orban’s views on immigration, and actually may be even more right-wing on that issue. He said that migrant workers were stealing ducks from the Budapest Zoo and eating them, mirroring Trump’s “they’re eating the dogs” line.

Viktor Orbán didn’t just lose an election, he built his politics around dividing people. He’s talked about Hungarians as a “non mixed race.” He’s pushed laws banning LGBTQ people from being shown to minors in schools or media, basically treating their existence as something harmful. His government banned Pride events and even allowed authorities to identify people attending them. He’s called LGBTQ rights an “offensive” and compared liberal values to a “virus.” That’s not just rhetoric, it’s turning fear and exclusion into policy. Eventually, people get tired of being told who to fear and who doesn’t belong. Looks like Hungarians did.
