Okay, this pretty much blows me away. Traces of Texas reader Lenora Langley sent in this wonderful old photo of her grandfather's Sinclair gas station in Gustine, Texas. That's Paul Patton on the right in the older photo. The station got really rundown over the years but, sometime between 2014 and 2021, it was restored. The color photo shows what it looked like in 2021. I love the fact that they restored it to look as it did back then. Does anybody know if it has been repurposed i.e. does it serve as a business today? It would be a cool spot for something. Gustine is a small community in Comanche County. It's roughly 12 miles east of Comanche. The population was 392 at the 2020 census, down from 476 at the 2010 census. The town, formerly known as Cora, was the county seat in the 1850s. Thank you, Lenora. I love it!

I have often given credit to the TXGOP being a very competent state party but the failure to consolidate behind a single candidate in basically any of the contested primaries and letting the candidates drag each other through the mud has shown a shocking level of incompetence.

This has always been true. Net vs. gross. Agents and managers are paid on gross, not net. They are incentivized to fill schedules with breakeven shows. Classic principal-agent problem. If you pay attention as an artist, you end up with a free MBA. That’s why I teach at the business college.
