@MVMCCU That’s a pretty good list Mark, although the links with hacking as we understand it today are pretty tenuous. The Conversation is a personal favourite.

The street name Lord Warden’s Parade was reportedly challenged because it “sounded too orange”. Years back residents were consulted and, rightly, rejected it. Street renaming means cost, paperwork, disruption, new signage, and possible mortgage complications for the people who actually live there.

How have we got ourselves into the position that the government is basically telling the motor manufacturers what types of car to produce? Didn’t the Soviet Union try that? UK launches review of electric car sales quotas thetimes.com/article/c385c4…

The Biased Broadcating Corporation: In times past, I have championed public broadcasting - especially BBC World Service. But not any more. Although I continue to admire individual BBC journalists, such as Lyse Doucet, I no longer trust BBC reporting. As for domestic issues, like millions of others, I have despaired of BBC bias on legislative and political issues - including its endless promotion of euthanasia. I have been shocked by the BBC’s failure to uphold ethical or political impartiality - with complete disregard for its Charter duty to do so. It remains to be seen whether its new Director-General, Matt Brittin, will address this - but he should not be surprised if traditional supporters of public broadcasting decline to support BBC demands for more public money. @lisanandy @BBC

Does nobody in government, involved in public inquiries or court cases back up their phone? My phone has every WhatsApp message I’ve ever written, going right back to 2013. Also why are these messages not able to be pieced together from other peoples phones. It’s really weird

Woman: I'm not driving. I'm a passenger in a car... Judge: Am I crazy, or does it not look like you're driving that car? Woman: I'm not driving the car. Judge: What side of the car are you on? Woman: I'm on the left-hand side.

After 30 years of hearing the phrase "Drinking the Kool-Aid", I realised I didn't know for certain what Kool-Aid was. Google revealed it wasn't exactly what I suspected, but more surprising was the exact incident that inspired the phrase "Drinking the Kool-Aid." Very surprising.

This mobile phone is vital to the Mandelson scandal. The Labour Prime Minister’s then Chief of Staff says it was stolen. This Labour Secretary of State told the public that the theft happened months before the Mandelson scandal. Turns out that’s not true. Why did he lie?

This smells as fishy as a Somalia trawler. There is a whole dedicated IT security team in the rear basement of 10 Downing Street who constantly ensure that staff phones and IT kit are secure. Inconceivable they were not rapidly made aware of the alleged phone theft by the CoS private office. Logs would exist of this. And when new device issued, 10DS security team would liaise with Met and OGD to assess whether opportunistic thief or targeted foreign agent operation with the potential to compromise some of the most senior figures in government. This McSweeney equivalent of ‘the dog ate my homework’ is going to need a bit more work.

BREAKING   Scotland Yard has confirmed that Morgan McSweeney reported the theft of his phone to them on October 20 last year   They took down ***the wrong address*** and assumed the offence had taken place in East London rather than Westminster   As a result they could not identify a suspect and the case was closed   The Times has been told officers were 'too busy' to speak to Morgan McSweeney directly about it   Having established the error following the report by The Sun on Sunday they have amended the report   Worth bearing in mind that this was the theft of the phone with the prime minister's number, the number of every cabinet minister, sensitive WhatsApps, messages, emails… you name it. This was NOT an ordinary phone Starmer: “On Monday, 20 October police received a report from a man in his 40s alleging that his phone had been snatched.   “The incident was recorded as having taken place in Belgrave Street, E1.   “A review of the allegation, including a consideration of whether there was available CCTV, did not identify any realistic lines of enquiry. The investigation was subsequently closed.   “In the course of responding to a recent media enquiry, we became aware that the address was entered incorrectly at the time of the initial call and should instead have been recorded as Belgrave Road, Pimlico.   “Having identified this error, the report will be amended and the assessment of whether there is available evidence revisited."

Exclusive: Police did not investigate the theft of Morgan McSweeney’s phone because officers were “too busy”, despite the sensitivity of his messages and contacts Sir Keir Starmer’s former chief of staff told the Metropolitan police that his phone was stolen as he returned home from a restaurant in central London on October 20 last year The theft of the work device means that McSweeney’s WhatsApp messages and texts to Lord Mandelson, the former ambassador to the US, cannot be retrieved. It has led critics to question whether the phone was stolen The State of It, the political podcast from The Times and The Sunday Times, can disclose that McSweeney told police the phone was taken by a man wearing a balaclava on an electric bike. The man grabbed it out of his hand as McSweeney was responding to text messages and cycled off. McSweeney gave chase but was unable to keep up Scotland Yard has a record of the incident but did not carry out any formal investigation. Officers did not speak to McSweeney directly because they were too busy. He was given a crime reference number and the case was closed McSweeney reported the theft of his phone to No 10 and the device was shut off remotely. He was given a new device with the same number the next day. The theft of the phone was first reported by The Sun on Sunday thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…
