"They sought to save money by preventing illness." The horror. When the DDR was annexed by West Germany, the free preventative healthcare system was dismantled — including the polyclinics where several medical specialities collaborated to provide a wide variety of health services under one roof. Medicine reverted to the archaic model of individually-owned family clinics, which are beset by high bureaucratic overheads and a highly-competitive environment requiring a constant source of profits. I read about a doctor from the former DDR who received capitalist re-education in the West, teaching him how to ensure that patients would come back for "repeat treatment", thereby ensuring his practice's financial sustainability.

I think it is a sign of society evolving backwards, especially the south Asian society, that so called "professions" like matchmakers still exist and not only that, they are adapting and growing in this age of social media, instead of dying down

Full sapot to whatever lifeofpujaa is doing. As I have always said, I love it when cultural media breaks gatekeeping containment. Every time a kid in a tier 3 town in Uttar Pradesh listens to Arctic Monkeys, an angel gains wings.

The LifeOfPujaa discourse on Instagram is so unnecessary & classist. Sure she likely has a video team and is possibly making good money but why is authenticity only foisted on folks like her? Is performing wealth & irreverence on more authentic than good politics on social media?

#DECODE | Facial recognition is now being extended to children aged 3–6, with growing pressure across Anganwadi centres to enrol them with Aadhaar. For those without Aadhaar, the system relies on a parent’s identity but if that face match fails too, children can be excluded from food and preschool education. As documentation gaps and algorithmic failures collide, access to welfare under India’s 50-year-old nutrition programme is increasingly being tied to fragile tech. Read our new Decode investigation by @HeraRizwan1, supported by the @pulitzercenter. #Anganwadi #FacialRecognition #ChildSafety boomlive.in/decode/indias-…

Racists are idiots because this is a common practice, drinks are often kept outside, they stay cold and you save the space in fridge. People even put cakes etc. outside after baking to quickly cool them down for decorating.

Nursing homes and private hospitals went on a strike for a full month in March 2023 in Rajasthan protesting against a bill that proposed to make emergency care free in them, citing financial burden and threat to livelihood due to unpaid care and support. Medicals Associations came out on the street in support. The other side of that story is to see how this same medico cohort disposes medical waste in water bodies in the state to “protect their livelihoods” without blinking an eye, when the rule is explicit about control incineration and disposal. The issue also is how state and national medical associations have always muted themselves on this issue of medical waste disposal. There is no urgency to work with the state and build capacity for medical waste, no self governing and monitoring mechanisms or threat of de-rostering by them. This is just one instance in Balotra district of the state reported by @Earthworri1
Earth Warrior@Earthworri1

Dumping medical waste in the open is an environmental "ticking time bomb" that creates severe, long-lasting hazards. Whether discarded (used) or undiscarded (expired/unused), this waste contaminates the very resources—air, water, and soil—that sustain life.  @IMAIndiaOrg @rmsc_official @RajCMO @BhajanlalBjp

The moment I step out for grocery shopping in Delhi, my face is blasted with incessant dust. So I have to wear two layers of mask, ensure I haven’t showered so that I can shower when I’m back home, carry umbrella and an hat. Stepping out in India is a series of negotiations where you have to weigh multiple factors - which is deeply saddening and depressing.
Rajvi@rajvishah30

Why does everything need an abstraction layer now? Even the upper middle class can outsource every chore thanks to instant commerce. Sometimes it feels like we’ve over optimized life, what happened to the simple rhythm of grocery shopping, the quiet therapy of cleaning, stepping out to buy what you need, or just driving yourself somewhere?

Scandinavian winters are so dark, so draining, that when spring comes one becomes manic with joy. Even though it happens every year, one is left overwhelmed by the sense that they had forgotten it was possible to feel this good.

In Delhi, everything seems worse than before. Dirtier roads, nosier people, more dust, and just so. much. trash. I have spent 27 years in this city, born and raised here. It wasn't like this. I was never one of the "Delhi romantics" but damn this city is not livable at all.
