The scientific bases for all U.S. state laws and proposed laws to go to 100% renewable, clean, 0-C, and/or 0-emissions & the #GreenNewDeal web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jac… web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jac… web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jac… The only way to do any of these is with #WindWaterSolar

The scientific basis for #California's #SB100 (Effectively #100% renewable electricity by 2045) & Exec Order B-55-18 (effectively 100% renewable all-energy by 2045 to eliminate air pollution+GHGs) #GCAS2018 @GovPressOffice @StanfordEnergy @StanfordWoods @100isNow @350 @TheRE100

Wow! Solar surpasses 3 TW of nameplate capacity worldwide. Wind is over 1.3 TW. Together, they make up 4.3 TW. For comparison, U.S. average power demand is 0.47 TW, so W+S can now meet a peak of 9x U.S. average power demand or, over a year, 2x U.S. electric energy demand. Here's more: Solar added 583 GW in one year (+23.9%) Wind added 167 GW (+14.4) Together they added 750 GW. The world added a NET of only 1.6 GW of nuclear. energiaestrategica.com/en/notes/esper…

@mzjacobson "Bio energy"? Ethanol emits no smoke, soot, particulate matter, or sulfur. Its recycled non-fossil CO2 is from the current biosphere

When are you going to stop paying fossil fuel and bioenergy companies to poison our air, Trump? 100,000 Americans die from fossil- and bio- air pollution every year. You take money away from wind and solar, which eliminate these deaths and give that money and other subsidies to combustion companies to kill more people and increase climate damage, which in turn exacerbates wildfires.

Trump says he told PM Carney today that Canadian fires are poisoning the US’s air and demanded that he stop them and he’s looking for compensation. Does this dumb fuck not know he has had 40,580 fires this year that have burned 3,888,322 acres of forestry. Also there are 78 UNCONTAINED fires raging at this very moment.

This is so crazy and irresponsible given that the Iran war is due entirely to the secret development of nuclear weapons under the guise of civilian nuclear energy. Trump approves U.S.-Saudi civil nuclear energy agreement "The deal leaves open the possibility that Saudi Arabia will enrich uranium domestically in the future, the officials said, a prospect that could raise concerns about nuclear weapons proliferation." "In the deal, the United States and Saudi Arabia have agreed to safeguards to inhibit any weaponization effort, the sources said. But that framework would be governed by the two countries themselves, instead of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which conventionally oversees nuclear pacts." Do not trust anyone pushing nuclear electricity for any reason. They have no idea the implications of what they are doing. abcnews.com/International/…

This system will deliver 1 GW of constant baseload electricity year-round supplied entirely by solar. Batteries will shift electrons to night.

UAE state-owned IPP Masdar has reached financial close on what it has claimed is the world’s “first gigascale 24/7 renewable energy project”. energy-storage.news/masdar-reaches… - great process in UAE for 24/7 PV supply ... this could be possible globally: doi.org/10.1016/j.jcle…

Biden approved offshore wind farms and supported onshore solar and wind and EVs and electric heat pumps and energy efficiency. Trump has paid companies to cancel their wind contracts and instead invest in oil and gas. Not saying Biden did enough. He didn't but at least in the correct direction.

@mzjacobson So if I’m following your method of reasoning correctly, Joe Biden caused the the most devastating Canadian wildfires in recorded history. You’re a fucking genius!

Yes, but the batteries in TX are 2-hour batteries. California's are 4-hour batteries, The numbers in the graph seem off. Utility solar in TX according to ERCOT in July 2026 is 39.4 GW rather than the high number in the graph according to these data ercot.com/files/docs/202… Similarly, this site has total solar (utility + BTM) in TX as 53.6 GW through Q1 of 2026 and 55.5 GW in CA seia.org/state-by-state/ The same link has 29.16 GWh of storage capacity in TX and 60.6 GWh in CA.

Texas is ranked #16 percentage wise, at 37% WWS over the past year, but ranked #1 in terms of absolute wind (and #2 in terms of absolute solar). TX is especially lagging in rooftop PV compared with CA but extremely close or higher in terms of utility PV. Rooftop PV and home batteries is where they are very weak.

I think people, especially @JigarShahDC, are missing the reality of what is happening in the world. California's main grid in 2026 is producing 58.5% of all its electricity with WindWaterSolar (WWS) and also has 17 GW of batteries that can supply 74% of average demand and 38% of peak demand for 4 hours at a cost of $0.0028/kWh-grid electricity if bought new. And gas is down 60% in 2026 vs 2023 to boot. And what is in the queue for the next 5 years? 19 GW PV, 0.8 GW wind, 17.1 GW of batteries, 0 GW gas, 0 GW biomass, 0 GW nuclear. So California is moving to 100% WWS, yet there are 12 states ahead of CA. 14 states have met 50-126% of their demand with just WindWaterSolar in the past year. South Dakota met 126% and Montana, 112% - See Table 2 here. web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jac… And China and South Australia, among many other countries are moving toward 100% WWS. At its current rate of WWS growth, China will be 100% WWS in electricity by 2045 and all energy by 2051. The U.S. will be there only by 2148. Useless all-of-the-above policies in the U.S. championed by Jigar, that have subsidized carbon capture (which increases CO2), direct air capture (which increases CO2), blue H2, nuclear, electro-fuels, biofuels, biomass, etc., which do nothing but worsen air pollution and climate problems, have allowed China to jump 100 years ahead of the U.S. in the rate of their transformation to clean, renewable energy. web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jac…
