Very excited about this work now out in @molecology ! We test whether🐦 with ⬆️dispersal propensity differ in the nº of CpGs across the genome, with the hypothesis that⬆️CpGs allow for⬆️epigenetically-driven plasticity facilitating environmental coping onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/me…

🚨 New paper alert!
We find a small fraction of all CpG sites to show age-related changes in DNA methylation with the majority of them being located on the haploid, female-specific W chromosome in two passerines. 🐦🧬⌛ onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/me…

Glad to see that our efforts for accessible, transparent and reproducible research are being recognized.

Great research by @M_Tangili and her team from RUG about aging of birds. All data, code, and analysis are open for further research!

🚨 New preprint alert!
More siblings, fiercer competition, extra food—but stunted growth! 🐦🪹📏
In zebra finches raised in large broods, increased energy spent on begging—not less food—causes reduced growth.

New preprint out! We tested the association between "epigenetic potential" and dispersal in wild pied flycatchers, with the hypothesis that⏫epigenetic potential may facilitate successfull settlement in novel environments through ⏫ phenotypic plasticity biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

So grateful to have been involved in this! Thank you @blanca_jimeno @Mark_Ravinet and the rest of the team.

🚨New preprint alert 🚨
We present a chromosomal perspective of the DNAm landscape in two bird species. Our findings suggest that DNAm is involved in the development of sex-dependent phenotypes, but not in dosage compensation.

@JorisvandeRiet I need a PhD extension of a minimum of 3 months to make up for the time I waisted waiting for my computer to re-connect to eduroam who just decided to disconnect for no apparent reason (10x a day) 🥹

@sproul_lab In the final paragraph we highlight similarities and differences with research on humans but unfortunately so far there is only a couple of papers on site-specific DNA methulation changes and only on human sex chromosomes.

@M_Tangili Interesting, would be nice to have more sites to try and ask whether similar molecular processes are underpinning these changes and those in mammals.

New preprint 🚨
We find a high concentration of age-related CpG sites on the W chromosome of two avian species, potentially contributing to sex-dependent aging. 🧬🐦⬛🐦
