I've been in the Shopify ecosystem since 2016. Then I submitted my first app to Apple. The difference in how they treat developers is not even close. Apple sent me rejection feedback that was 3 to 5 paragraphs long. For each of the 4 issues. With links to documentation. With technical support available if I got stuck. The emails were warm. The portal was clean. Every conversation lived in one place. No hunting down threads. No mystery. Shopify is where I live professionally. It is my whole ecosystem. But Apple made me feel like a partner immediately. That is not a knock on Shopify. It is a challenge. They need to do better. They need to go back to the partner experience of 2016. There are other ecosystems stealing GOOD developers. Just because the developer volume is up, doesn't mean it is good. Developer experience is a product decision. When you treat rejection like a collaboration instead of a verdict, developers build better apps and stay longer. Apple figured that out. The Shopify App Store is the only app store I had ever been in until BowlWith.me changed that. Glad it did.

A customer just called my personal number asking for a refund. Turns out Gemini told him it was the best number to contact for Recharge refunds. Glad to help and he did get his refund but also how do I get that changed?

Shopify is building the foundation for agentic commerce. Universal Commerce Protocol, which we co-developed with Google, is now live. UCP will make it faster for agents and retailers to integrate. It’s open by default, so platforms and agents can use UCP to start transacting with any merchant. Major retailers are already using it. Agents can handle everything from discovery to fulfillment, and support things like discounts, subscriptions, and loyalty programs. We’ve accounted for all types of commerce.
