Last August, in partnership with the Dangote Group, we made significant progress by signing a landmark shareholders’ agreement for a fertilizer plant with a planned annual production capacity of 3 million metric tons of urea. In October 2025, we officially launched construction of the project. This initiative represents far more than infrastructure. It is a strategic investment in Ethiopia’s agricultural transformation, food security, industrial growth, and economic self-reliance. Once completed, the fertilizer plant will play a vital role in strengthening local production capacity, reducing dependence on imports, supporting millions of farmers, and creating new opportunities for jobs and investment. This morning, together with @AlikoDangote, I visited the project site in Gode to assess the progress achieved so far. I am encouraged by the steady momentum across the project area. Construction activities are advancing as planned across multiple sections of the site, reflecting the strong commitment and collaboration driving this important national project forward.

Built to survive force-11 gales and sea ice. It sits 5 miles off the coast and powers 2.67 million people. Oh, and they're also farming fish underneath it 😳

A couple of days ago while landing in Mombasa, I tried to catch a clip of our now-closed refinery. I've always thought KPRL was a big facility — I even asked at one point why not revive it. Today I decided to do a quick comparison with what Al Hajj Aliko Dangote set up in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. The numbers humbled me. 🇳🇬 Dangote Refinery: 📐 6,180 acres (2,635 hectares) 🛢️ 650,000 barrels/day 💧 4.74 billion litres storage ⚡ Own 435 MW power plant 🇰🇪 KPRL (Mombasa): 📐 378 acres (~150 hectares) 🛢️ 80,000 barrels/day (designed) 💧 484 million litres storage 🚫 Refining ceased in 2013 Dangote's site is 16× larger. Let that sink in. Now here's what really caught my attention — the debate is on Tanga vs Mombasa as Mama Suluhu meets Dangote today. But if the plan is to replicate the Nigeria setup, where exactly is the land in Mombasa? Our entire Dongo Kundu Economic Zone is 3,000 acres — half the size of the Dangote plant alone. This fact-check surprised me. Maybe we throw Lamu into the ring? 🤔

RECALL OF PARLIAMENT FROM RECESS - FUEL PRICES: Following our proposal to amend various laws with the aim of reducing fuel prices, we have written to the Speaker of the National Assembly with a request to recall the house from recess at the earliest, preferably Monday to process the various proposed amendments. We have proposed amendments as below; Amendment on the VAT act to reduce VAT on fuel Products from 8% to Zero thereby making Petro, Diesel and Kerosene VAT exempt. This will save Kenyans Ksh 15.87 and Ksh 17.99 on Super Petro and diesel respectively. Reduction of RMLF by Ksh 7 through the revocation of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (Imposition of Levy) Order, 2024. The proposal on additional Ksh 5Bn subsidies for Diesel does not necessarily need Parliamentary approval. All these proposals can reduce the Price by an acceptable margin and avert damaging inflationary effects to the economy. Thank you. We are African and Africa is our Business..

NOTE: Ethiopia is a landlocked country. Fuel prices are higher in Kenya because of cartels, who seek kickbacks for every barrel of fuel procured.

What some once dismissed as a pipe dream is today steadily rising on the Kisumu skyline. The Anderson Park Estate Housing Project, under our urban renewal agenda, is making visible and significant progress. Implemented in partnership with LAPTRUST and the County Pension Fund (CPF), the KSH 5 Billion development when finally fully complete, phase 1 will deliver 746 modern housing units comprising 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments, expanding access to decent and dignified housing for our people. The County Government of Kisumu, contributed the land for redevelopment in exchange for settling accrued pension debts we inherited, and has played a central role through policy support, stakeholder engagement, and project oversighting. This project reflects my long-term vision to position Kisumu as a resilient and forward-looking metropolitan city, well prepared to meet the demands of rapid urban growth.It has from the date of ground breaking 712 days ago, been offering livelihoods to an average 500 youth per day taking home between 600/= to 1,500/= daily. Beyond housing, Anderson Park demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships in accelerating development, improving urban infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents. Where we do not have sufficient funds to execute any one of 14 devolved responsibilities as a County, we look for strategic partners. This is a success story. From doubt to delivery, Kisumu’s transformation is firmly underway. It is very normal and a right for some people to oppose or doubt. #TichTire
