@Robin11119224 @craigbrogden I am pro HISA and always have been and have never wavered on that stance. I am not saying it is perfect but I will say that the horses that our farm is asked to take in as OTTBs have come home earlier and sounder because of it.

@MachmerHall @craigbrogden I have been following you for years, & you have always expressed common sense & critical thinking. From the outside looking in, the industry is being run by greed, & care of the horses is not a factor. HISA exists because the industry refused to course correct.

I have watched horse racing in a death spiral for 25 years now … since Machmer Hall’s Ky farm founding. We have the biggest asset of any sport on the 🌎, the 🐎! The sales are still strong because supply is falling faster than demand. @craigbrogden this is a must read if you want the industry to thrive just like I do. I hate the fact that I cannot encourage any of my grown children to take the reins because at this point, I know the truth of the future.

🚨MUST READ: Attached is a letter from @aronwellman7 detailing his firsthand experience in a meeting with the @JockeyClub last week at OBS. On the surface, it’s a strong letter. It captures Aron’s real frustration trying to work directly with the Evil Empire, The Jockey Club. But after sitting with it, it’s not encouraging. It’s sad. It’s upsetting. It’s devastating for an industry and a sport that so many people love. Aron chose not to name the stewards in the room, but I will. He met with Terry Finley, Bill Farish, and Jim Gagliano. For over three years, I’ve felt the same anger and frustration Aron lays out. The brutally honest truth is this: it’s not that the Jockey Club doesn’t understand the problems, and it’s not that they can’t fix them. They know exactly what they’re doing. They just don’t care about you, the industry, or most importantly, the horse. Jim Gagliano might be a nice guy personally. But professionally, he has been ineffective, incompetent, and damaging to this industry. The Jockey Club stewards are largely made up of blue bloods and pheasant hunters. They are mostly made up of frauds, and 90% of us in the industry see it now. Stuart Janney, the previous chairman, had a dispersal sale two years ago and still sits on the Board of Stewards while also serving on the NYRA board. Nothing changes. Our new chairman, Everett Dobson, seems like another nice guy who talks a good game but refuses to take real action. Just weeks ago, he stood at the National HBPA Conference calling for unity and collaboration. That would mean a lot more if it wasn’t coming from someone who helps control every major lever of power in the sport. Last week, I exposed the real Puppetmaster behind much of this, Bill Lear, a man whose influence stretches across the Jockey Club, Keeneland, HISA, Breeders’ Cup, TOBA, NTRA, and beyond. And now, from multiple sources, the panic is setting in. Kentucky legislators are paying attention. They’re tired of the control, the conflicts, and the lack of accountability. House Bill 904, and its proposed amendment, could change everything. It would limit the Jockey Club’s ability to impose a mare cap and, more importantly, open the door for an alternate breed registry in Kentucky. If that happens, their monopoly is in jeopardy. For decades, owners and breeders have been forced to hand over their data and operate under a system with no real choice and no real recourse. That may finally change. It’s taken a long time to get here, but the momentum is real. And make no mistake, the Jockey Club and its stewards are feeling it. This sport has no future if a small, closed circle continues to control the Jockey Club, HISA, Breeders’ Cup, TOBA, NTRA, and even Keeneland. For the sake of the participants, the fans, and most importantly the American Thoroughbred, let’s hope this is the beginning of the end of the greed, the self-interest, and the incompetence. What do you think???

That would be relative to the operation and their overhead. A family farm can do it for much less than a showplace farm w massive staff, bells and whistles etc. I’m sure we could look it all up, but ultimately people don’t wanna breed because you can buy a great horse a lot easier than you can breed one.

@MachmerHall @craigbrogden Here is a great question… what was and what now is the cost of getting a mare pregnant to then sell as a yearling? Let’s say starting Jan 1 of open/maiden mare year through September sale of the foals yearling year. Roughly 33 months of bills.

Just read. Joke that Janney still a steward after he had a dispersal. Just as bad that a steward is just a lawyer for the organization. Wellman has reached the right conclusion of who has to go, I’m surprised he has lasted so long. Its time to look OUTSIDE the industry for the best sports minds we can find.

The Renaissance Thoroughbred Series launching in 2027 will be a game changer for Thoroughbreds 2nd longer career. As this program expands to more disciplines the demand for OTTB’s post racing will grow exponentially. The investment in the program will be minimal compared to return it generates.

@MachmerHall @Carolin04582966 Many old trainers think use of steroids is the major variable here - they would eat more, recover faster so could handle more work and carry more muscle tone.

@Mattunchained Almost every study in every racing jurisdiction has shown that racing at two is a major factor in career longevity. Saying that racing them at two is not good for longevity is not a hill you want to die on as the data says the exact opposite across massive populations.
