VA-bred 2yo SEVEN PINES shipped to the track this weekend. 13 months ago he tore a basketball sized hole in his abdomen and things looked grim. The great @hoganequine patched him back together and today he has only a scar and a good story to tell the fillies about how he got it.

The devil and flies… ain’t that the truth? With the rains comes the mud and then the flies. Sometimes they overlap and right now they are brutal. I have yet to find anything that solves the fly problem and I have probably tried everything. We have a mister system in the barn, we tried have all the sprays and potions and feed supplements, lick tubs, etc. Nothing really helps for long. We can send humans into space but we cannot solve the fly problem. I don’t get it! And trying to spray most of these doofaronis is always fun. They are moving targets! My pasture probably has less flies after my effort, however. We had a pretty good Derby Day for donations (thank you S.L., Lana, Christoper, Mary. Nicole, Kathrine, Kimberly, Cynthia, Debra, Elizabeth and our anonymous friend in NY) and raised $965 to bring our total raised for our May hay goal to $1,976 and $4,024 from goal. Our hay room is empty so we’d like to be able to pay our hay guy and get more delivered in the morning. We are holding on, praying we make it to goal.

My hot take for the Kentucky Derby. With the smaller foal population, tighter vet scrutiny, The Kentucky Derby should be limited to 14 Starters.

My Dad loved the standardbreds. He was raised a Midwestern farmboy in the 20s and 30s, where the local farmers would hitch up their horses and race them against oneanother. Wasn't until after he passed that I caught the thoroughbred bug. He would love what I'm doing nowadays.

@CDfromVA The last day before the war I paid 2.79 at Costco in Fairfax. I remember because a week later it was 2.84 and I thought not too bad. 3.99 yesterday.

I filled up with gas the other day, was like $60. Just took my Tesla from 10% battery to 100% on one of those blink chargers. $12 for 300 miles Insane.

LOVELY GREY is a grass horse with no business running in the Oaks but I understand why @stoolpresidente ran her. I still regret not running our WONDERMENT in the 2016 Oaks. We qualified after winning the Turfway G3 prep race but passed on the Oaks because we wouldn't have won.
