Joyvener Odhiambo is calling for policies that consider the environmental impact of unchecked infrastructure development, including the rise of skyscrapers and the risks they may pose to the environment. As young people continue raising bold and necessary conversations around #climateaction, the Youth #GreenManifesto launching this June is bringing these voices, concerns, and solutions together into one collective call for #accountability and #sustainable leadership👊 #ClimateAction #YouthVoices #YouthManifesto #GreenManifesto

Strengthening Youth Participation in Climate Conversations! @Oayouthkenya participated in the Green Week Mazingira Challenge Day at Kenyatta University as part of ongoing efforts under the #SikilizaSautiYetu Project to amplify youth voices on issues affecting communities and the future of the environment. Representing the organization were Programmes Coordinator Sandra Chepkogei and @KYCA_Council Members @JUSTINEMAGANG10 and @MachukaOgeto who contributed to the panel discussion focused on #climateaction, policy, and livelihoods. The conversation highlighted the growing need to involve young people in shaping #sustainablesolutions and creating opportunities that connect climate action to everyday realities. At OAY-Kenya, we continue working with young people through dialogues, #advocacy spaces, community engagement, and partnerships that encourage meaningful participation in climate and development conversations. The #GreenWeek engagement offered another opportunity to connect with students, exchange ideas, and encourage practical action towards environmental #sustainability. What climate solution would you like to see young people champion more in Kenya? @kunec250 #YouthVoices #ClimateJustice #GreenWeek2026 #Nairogreen

What better way is there than coming together to learn about #wastemanagement and how communities can create solutions for themselves🤝 We are live at Korogocho Market, at the Korogocho MRF CBO, for a peer-to-peer learning experience under the #SikilizaSautiYetu project. Communities are sharing real experiences from the ground, learning about the #WasteWiseNaieobi project. More insights from the ground coming as the exchange continues. #Nairogreen #YouthEmpowerment 📸 ~ @Rateng_1

The Finance Bill 2026 is already sparking debate across the country and today, young people are making sure their voices are part of that conversation. Through the #SheriaYaVijana Project, youth representatives from different CBOs in Nairobi are convening at YMCA Central for a consultative forum to analyse the proposed Bill, raise concerns, unpack its potential impact on ordinary Kenyans, and develop a youth-driven memorandum capturing recommendations and policy priorities. What’s on the table? Today’s discussions are exploring key proposals within the Finance Bill, including: ➡️VAT exemptions on electric buses and bicycles ➡️Proposed excise duty on mobile phones ➡️Tax implications on digital financial services and money transfers ➡️Increase in residential rental income tax ➡️Changes in tax filing timelines ➡️ Proposed taxation on mitumba imports ➡️ Concerns around KRA enforcement powers and taxpayer protections etc. Participants are also interrogating the broader questions around fairness, economic inclusion, youth livelihoods, innovation, and whether the burden of taxation is being shared equitably. Why this matters For many young Kenyans, policy conversations often feel distant until the effects hit directly through the cost of living, business operations, employment opportunities, or digital access. Through Sheria Ya Vijana, young people are reclaiming their space in governance and ensuring their voices are reflected in national decision-making processes. #FinanceBill2026 #YouthVoicesMatter #GreenEconomy #DigitalEconomy #YouthParticipation 📸 @Rateng_1

Turning Waste Into Opportunity: Peer-to-Peer Learning at Korogocho Market What does it look like when communities stop seeing waste as just “taka” and start seeing it as value, income, structure, and opportunity? We answered this question today at Korogocho Market during a peer-to-peer learning experience hosted by Korogocho MRF CBO. The session, held under the @EUinKenya funded #SikilizaSautiYetu project brought together community-based organisations to learn directly from practical systems already being implemented on the ground. The learning exchange brought together representatives from Ex Moroto CBO, Dako CBO, @Youthprinua, Jirani Mwema CBO, and the host organisation, Korogocho MRF CBO About the Host CBO Under their Waste Wise Nairobi Project, Korogocho MRF CBO focuses on improving community #wastemanagement systems through collection, segregation, awareness creation, and value addition. The CBO has built systems that support organised waste collection while also helping communities understand the importance of proper waste management at household level. Part of this work has included training community groups on waste management practices and helping #communities understand how waste can become a resource. Through support from UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) and implementing partners, the initiative has supported 22 CBOs through registration processes, helping informal community groups begin transitioning into more structured systems. It has further supported household waste segregation through the distribution of bins meant to separate organic and inorganic waste, making collection and sorting easier at community level despite existing resource limitations. What the Learning Exchange Focused On The visiting organisations had the opportunity to learn how Korogocho MRF CBO is managing waste collection systems, coordinating community participation, handling segregation processes, and building collection networks that connect waste to recycling and recovery systems. The conversations also explored the realities behind community waste work, including limited resources, operational challenges, coordination gaps, and the effort required to keep communities engaged consistently. Why This Matters Waste management in informal settlements is often discussed only as a sanitation issue, yet for many communities it is also tied to livelihoods, health, youth involvement, environmental responsibility, and community organisation. Through the Sikiliza Sauti Yetu project, @Oayouthkenya continues to create spaces where youth-led and community-based organisations can share knowledge, strengthen local systems, and amplify community-driven approaches to environmental action and sustainable development. #Nairogreen #YouthEmpowerment 📸 ~@Rateng_1

Through its role in the ICPD Youth Coalition, @Oayouthkenya represented by programs officer @sheilachepki, led targeted community engagements in Garissa County and Isiolo County focused on advancing #SRHR, addressing Gender-Based Violence (#GBV), and disrupting harmful practices affecting #adolescents and young people. Far from being routine engagements, these interactions created a deliberate space to listen, learn, and engage with #youngpeople within their own realities, offering a clearer understanding of the social, cultural, and systemic factors shaping access to SRHR information and services across different county contexts. What emerged from the engagements Working across both counties revealed that there is no single story when it comes to young people’s realities. 🔹Cultural norms and traditions continue to define how SRHR is understood and discussed, often limiting openness. 🔹Harmful practices remain present, influencing #choices, agency, and long-term outcomes for young people. 🔹Gaps in youth-friendly services and access to accurate information persist, leaving many adolescents navigating critical issues without adequate support Creating space for honest conversations A key outcome of the engagements was the creation of safe, intentional spaces for dialogue—spaces that are often missing but deeply needed. Young people were able to: 🔹Share their lived experiences openly and authentically 🔹Engage in honest, reflective conversations around SRHR and GBV 🔹Contribute practical, grounded ideas for change within their #communities The message was clear: ➡️ Access to safe spaces, accurate information, and responsive systems is essential. Young people as drivers of change Perhaps the most powerful takeaway was the clarity and readiness of #youngpeople to lead. They are not waiting to be included—they are already positioning themselves as: 🔹Peer educators, influencing knowledge within their networks 🔹Community advocates, challenging harmful norms from within 🔹Champions for change, actively addressing GBV and harmful practices They also identified practical pathways for impact, including: 🔹Leveraging schools and existing community structures as platforms for awareness Utilizing digital spaces to expand access to information 🔹Building peer-led initiatives that reflect their lived realities Impact at a glance ✔️ 200 young people reached across Garissa and Isiolo ✔️ Increased awareness on SRHR, GBV, and harmful practices ✔️ Strengthened understanding of context-specific challenges and opportunities ✔️ Reinforced the value of youth-led, locally driven solutions These engagements reaffirm a simple but often overlooked truth: meaningful change begins with listening, and is sustained when young people lead. #YouthLeadership #EndGBV #AdolescentHealth #HarmfulPractices #ICPD

Dappa Man,was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a crime he never committed,Defilement,I always say, there should be a severe punishment for people who accuse others of crimes they never committed. Dappa Man, while on Obinna TV, revealed that his step mother set him up,he was arrested and was sent to remand. The step mother, never appeared in court,Dappa man,was the forced to plead guilty for the crime to avoid more time in Remand. Dappa Man cried, while narrating his life in prison and added that you should not even wish your worst enemy prison. I'm running for a Member of Parliament seat, and if elected, the first motion I will table is to criminalize false testimony and malicious accusations. Many men are suffering in prison for crimes they did not commit.

There is no shortage of ideas among young people;what has often been missing is structure, support, and sustained investment. The Sheria Ya Vijana Project, now officially ongoing, is bringing together 30+ community-based organisations and youth-led enterprises to begin closing that gap through intentional learning, reflection, and action. Over the past two weeks, @Oayouthkenya alongside partners, conducted trainings on #advocacy, leadership, and green entrepreneurship. 🔹 What We’ve Done So Far Week 1: Training of Trainers (TOTs) We equipped a dedicated group of youth leaders with the tools to train, mobilise, and lead from the front. Week 2: Community Rollout These TOTs went on to train 50+ youth representatives drawn from 30 community-based organisations and social enterprises across Nairobi. Participants didn’t just sit through sessions—they engaged deeply in: 1. Business Advocacy 2. Green Social Entrepreneurship 3. Policy Influence 4. Building sustainable, community-driven solutions 🔹 Beyond the Buzzwords: What This Work Is Really About Let’s be honest, terms like #youthempowerment, innovation, and #climateaction are everywhere. But without the right tools, they remain exactly that, words. Sheria Ya Vijana is deliberately moving beyond that. This project is about ensuring that young people: ☑️Understand how to navigate and influence policy spaces ☑️Build sustainable ventures that respond to both economic and environmental realities ☑️Develop the confidence and clarity to engage in civic processes with purpose ☑️Turn community challenges into practical, scalable solutions The real gap is not potential but access, structure, and sustained support. 🔹 What’s Next? (The Real Work Begins) For the next three years, this project will: ➡️Support youth-led organisations to grow sustainable enterprises ➡️Strengthen their capacity to engage in civic and policy spaces ➡️Amplify youth voices in climate action and governance ➡️Build a network of young leaders who are not only active—but effective, informed, and strategic 🔹 A Collective Effort Backed by Strong Partnerships This initiative is funded by @EUinKenya and implemented through a consortium that brings together diverse strengths and expertise: @Oayouthkenya, @WeWorldOnlus, Afosi, @StretchersYouth @KenyaCIC and Barnfonden. To every young person, organisation, and leader who showed up, engaged, and committed to this process, congratulations. Not just for participating, but for choosing to be part of something that demands consistency, accountability, and growth. #SheriaYaVijana #YouthLeadership #GreenOpportunities #YouthVoices #CivicEngagement #YouthInAction

Day 4 | TOT led #SheriayaVijana training on Leadership & Advocacy! In today’s world, digital skills are no longer optional, and for young people working in #climate and #advocacy spaces, they have become a critical part of staying relevant, effective, and truly impactful in the work they do. As our TOT-led trainings at YMCA Central come to a close, today’s first session, facilitated by Veronica Kahutu, focused on how #youngpeople can practically use AI and digital tools to strengthen their work across advocacy, business, and climate action spaces. Breaking Down AI into Practical Use Rather than approaching AI as a complex concept, the session simplified it into clear, usable skills that participants can apply immediately: 🔹Understanding how to communicate with AI through effective prompt writing 🔹 Structuring prompts by clearly defining goals, context, and expected outcomes 🔹 Improving results through follow-up questions and refinement 🔹 Using AI tools to support research, writing, and everyday productivity Participants also explored commonly used tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Grammarly, and Microsoft Copilot, gaining a better understanding of how these tools can support their work when used intentionally. Balancing Opportunity with Responsibility The session also created space to reflect on the responsible use of AI, emphasising the importance of protecting personal and organisational data, being aware of bias in generated content, and verifying information before applying it in real-world contexts. Why This Training Matters As young people continue to take up space in climate and advocacy work, the ability to use digital tools effectively is becoming just as important as understanding #policy and systems, because it shapes how ideas are communicated, how work is organised, and how impact is scaled. The Power of Youth-Led Learning Through the #SheriayaVijana project, funded by European Union in Kenya, young people are being equipped with knowledge as well as being trusted to lead the learning process, creating a space where peers can learn from each other in ways that are more relatable, practical, and grounded in shared experiences. By using a Training of Trainers model, the project is intentionally creating a ripple effect where knowledge does not remain within the training room but is passed on, expanded, and applied across different #communities, strengthening not just individual capacity but collective impact. #ClimateAction #ClimateLeadership #greeneconomy #YouthEmpowerment

Day 3 | TOT-led #SheriayaVijana training. Today’s first session, led by @_Valerie_d, focused on what it really means to lead as a young person working in #climate and #advocacy spaces. Instead of keeping leadership theoretical, the session broke it down into practical, usable skills: ➡️Understanding leadership as influence, not position. ➡️Exploring different leadership styles and when they work. ➡️Building confidence in group facilitation and guiding conversations. ➡️Strengthening negotiation skills for real-world advocacy. ➡️Learning how to communicate ideas clearly and with purpose. The conversation challenged participants to think beyond titles and ask themselves harder questions like; 1. What kind of leader am I becoming 2. How do my choices shape the impact I want to see? What stood out is how leadership is being shaped as a continuous process: ➡️Learning and unlearning ➡️Adapting to different situations ➡️Taking responsibility for both action and outcomes This session made it clear that young people are participants in climate conversation, and are already leading, influencing, and building #solutions in their spaces. The #SheriayaVijana project, funded by the @EUinKenya is designed to strengthen the capacity of young people to engage in #governance, advocacy, and #sustainable development, with a strong focus on the Twin Green and Digital Economy. Through trainings like this, young leaders are being equipped not just with knowledge, but with the skills and confidence to influence systems and drive change in their #communities. By using a Training of Trainers model, the project is intentionally creating a ripple effect, where young people equip other young people, expanding knowledge, confidence, and impact beyond the room. #YouthLeadership #ClimateAction

Building on the momentum from last week’s Training of Trainers, we are now in the next phase, where knowledge meets action 👊 Under the @EUinKenya funded #SheriaYaVijana project, young facilitators are now engaging peers from across youth-led organisations and enterprises at YMCA Central, delivering Business Advocacy Training grounded in #climateaction and #greeneconomy solutions. Bridging Knowledge and Practice In the next 3 days, participants are set to unpack key areas including youth business realities, the influence of policies and development partners, and the practical steps required to design and implement effective #advocacy strategies, supported by monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Creating a Pipeline of Advocates Under the guidance of @JUSTINEMAGANG10 @_Valerie_d @mukui_yvonne and John Muthui, the training is shaping a new wave of youth advocates equipped to engage with policy spaces and drive meaningful, community-level change. Why This Matters Across many communities, youth-led organisations are already responding to #climatechallenges, creating green jobs, and promoting #sustainablesolutions. However, without strong #advocacyskills, many of these efforts struggle to gain visibility, policy support, or sustainable investment. This training is therefore an important step in strengthening youth voices and ensuring their work informs decisions that shape the future of climate and #economicdevelopment. #YouthVoices #YouthEmpowerment 📸 ~ @Rateng_1
