At Youth Forum, a powerful moment unfolded — participants from former and current colonies came together in a deeply symbolic flash mob, planting their national flags side by side on a shared board and pouring their hearts into messages that refused to be silenced. Their words painted a bold vision: a world finally free from colonialism and neocolonialism, built on liberation, dignity, respect for international law, stronger global partnerships, and a future where young people don't just watch history unfold — they lead it. * * * Au Forum de la jeunesse, un moment puissant s’est déroulé — des participants provenant d’anciennes et actuelles colonies se sont réunis dans un flash mob profondément symbolique, plantant leurs drapeaux nationaux côte à côte sur un panneau commun et versant leurs cœurs dans des messages qui refusaient d’être réduits au silence. Let’s be honest, most young people only hear about budgets when it’s already too late to change anything. This time, the approach is different. Through #SheriaYaVijana @Oayouthkenya together with our partners @WeWorldOnlus @afosike @StretchersYouth @KenyaCIC, formed the County Youth Forum to shift young people from passive observers to active contributors in governance spaces. It’s about understanding the system well enough to engage it, and organised enough to influence it. From the 1st meeting held at our offices in Kasarani, here’s what the Steering Committee is already putting in motion: 1. A more grounded, youth-driven work plan Built together, refined together, and owned by the people doing the work. 2. Early action on budget proposals 🔹Identifying key youth priorities 🔹Shaping recommendations for county and national budgets 🔹Connecting these proposals to existing planning frameworks 3. A collaborative way of working 🔹Shared input through a central tool 🔹Continuous conversations across different channels 🔹Space for ideas to grow before becoming final submissions The County Youth Forum which consists of the chair @Boniface Harrison, @mukui_yvonne, @JUSTINEMAGANG10 KAPANGA, @wanja_147, Kevin Mathanu, @BerniceKeya, matters because it creates structure. The wait is over! Ready to lead fellow youth? The Kenya National Youth Council @NYC_YouthVoice elections are scheduled to take place in July 2026. This marks the second time in 14 years that youth representatives will be elected through a structured national process. Key Election Dates The elections follow a tiered grassroots-to-national structure: >>Ward Level: 5th July, 2026. >>Constituency Level: 16th July, 2026. >>National Congress: 27th July, 2026. Election Process & Structure The process is designed to ensure representation from every part of the country: >>Ward Level: Youth across 1,450 wards will elect 6 representatives per ward (3 men and 3 women), totaling 8,700 elected members nationwide. >>Constituency Level: The 8,700 ward delegates will convene at the constituency level to elect 2 representatives (one man and one woman) for each of the 290 constituencies. >>National Level: The 580 constituency representatives will form the National Youth Congress. They will elect 8 members to the National Youth Council, who will then provide national leadership and nominate a chairperson. Eligibility and Participation To participate as a candidate or voter, you must meet the following criteria: Age: Must be between 18 and 35 years old. Identification: Possess a valid National Identification Card. Registration: Must be a registered voter on the official National Youth Council website, nationalyouthcouncil.go.ke Candidate Nomination: Candidates must secure nominations from at least 50 registered youths.📷nationalyouthcouncil.go.ke  Official Oversight The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports has established a National Steering Committee and an Election Supervisory Committee to oversee the process, ensuring transparency and accountability. A 60-day nationwide voter education programme will precede the elections to inform participants about the process.
