Chinatown is a film I’ve revisited every summer since moving to LA in 2019. I think this is perhaps the definitively Los Angeles film. The history behind how this was made- behind Robert Towne’s contribution to the film- all fascinates me. And obviously, my favorite actor, Jack.

I may be wrong but I think Deniro was about to say the “do I look destitute to you?” again after Nolte says “how bout 10,000 dollars” but stopped himself & said the line “let’s just break that down”. Notice Deniro says “do I” then pauses & says the “let’s just break that down”. But he makes it look seamless. Watch again & see if you notice Deniro about to say a line he already said but catches himself because the topic in both instances is about money
