Tuesday's Updated Short List for USF Men's Basketball Canidates. I am now placing these canidates in order of likelihood of being hired by USF. Multiple sources indicating a strong interest from USF towards number one on the list. I hear Utah State is also in the running for his services. 1. Flynn Clayman (Head Coach, High Point) 37 year old coach who is rising fast in coaching canidate circles. 33-6 record as head coach with 1 Tournament appearance. Big South co-coach of the year in 2026. His team won the Big South regular season and conference tournament in 2026. His team just upset the 5th seeded Wisconsin in the 2026 NCAA tournament. 2.  Ryan Pannone (Head Coach, Arkansas State) USF alumnus and Clearwater native with deep local roots. Former Alabama assistant (under Nate Oats) known for elite offensive schemes and player development; he has NBA/G-League experience and was a strong name in USF’s prior search. Frequently cited as a top local favorite due to program familiarity and recruiting upside. 3.  John Groce (Head Coach, Akron) Veteran with consistent MAC success (29-6 this season, back-to-back tournament titles; 114-45 over the last five years at Akron). Former Illinois and Ohio head coach who has elevated multiple programs and brings stability/experience. Appears on multiple shortlists as a steady, proven option. 4.  Takayo Siddle (Head Coach, UNC Wilmington) Rising mid-major star who built UNCW into a consistent 20-win program and reached the NCAA Tournament last year (nearly upset Texas Tech). USF came very close to hiring him in the previous cycle; his modern offense and player development make him a recurring name in speculation. 5.  Antoine Pettway (Head Coach, Kennesaw State) Former Alabama assistant (like Hodgson) who just led Kennesaw State to a Conference USA title, 21-14 record, and NCAA Tournament appearance (nearly upset Gonzaga). Strong player-development track record and “next Amir Abdur-Rahim” parallels make him a logical rising name. Bryan Hodgson was a little lite on head coaching experience too when hired by USF although he had at least a NIT visit. I Think the fact they came from the same coaching tree helps raise his stock.

Seems like a guy who’d stay? 🤷‍♂️

Pannone makes sense but are we not at all concerned that he hasn’t really done anything yet as a head coach? He won 20 games, sure, but usually you’re looking for a regular season title, tournament title, NIT noise etc …

@usfbulls69 @USFMBB They’ve really had 2 since Higgins took control in the new nil era to be fair & it would maybe only be 1 if aar didn’t pass away. That’s the proper context needed . When you put it that way, saying 5 in 5 years provides no value or accuracy to the current hc search/conversation

@USFBullsTboned @RHiggins_USF @CoachTButters Kennedy is a solid mid major coach, don’t get me wrong, but Hasn’t done anything substantial at uab to show reason for usf to hire him. He would be a step down from usf’s previous 2 hires and not in line with their football/basketball program directions. Not an innovative hire…

With the news breaking that Bryan Hodgson is leaving USF to coach at Providence, who should @RHiggins_USF look at as possible canidates for the vacancy? This is in no particular order. @USFBullsTboned @RHiggins_USF Clayman seems great on paper, same for Pettway. They’re both young, former power 5 assistant, has taken over and improved substantially a smaller school. Thats the aar/hodgsin blueprint in a nutshell. Payne and Hurley too old . Pannone what has he actually done yet? Butters same.

How does HE not get fired after saying this? Saying this publicly, live on air, in the middle of a game, has to be the scummiest move a head coach can make in any sport.
