@ND1539 On the contrary, the fact you're playing Sunshine is the only good thing about the 100% process.

@TheJadCruz @trinh_pham13 @ManaByte The year they had to adjust to new more powerful hardware as well as the Microsoft buyout in the last quarter of it? It's impressive they put out one major game (on par with their 1998 output)

The health ministry has released a new 1,000-page document with the names, ages and other info, of 52,959 Palestinians killed in Gaza. For the first 100 pages (over 5,000 names), the age is listed at 5 years or younger. The first 18 pages the age is listed as 0 (under 1 year)

@trinh_pham13 @ManaByte No matter how you spin it, it makes no sense to consider releasing at least one major new game per year a "crawl".

@Quartzer10 @trinh_pham13 @ManaByte Wikipedia included it, there was no way I could work around including it in the screenshot. Even if you remove all less relevant games from this list you're still left with at least one or more major game per year.

@MaficMonstroci1 @ManaByte For $375M, you want more production to justify the price tag. Rare has done nothing since being acquired by Microsoft. Why are gamers like you financially illiterate? Please pick up an economics book.

@BlueBlurLewd @ManaByte Many people would beg to differ on the idea of Conker not being fun. (and again, it only sold poorly due to the M rating and late release in the N64's lifespan)

@MaficMonstroci1 @ManaByte Ok but it sold really bad. It also isn't fun, that's kinda important. Star Fox Adventures is pretty mid. And Rare didn't make a successful game again until Sea of Thieves. It took Playtonic a decade to make Yooka Laylee any good. Just not a great track record.

By the end of the N64 era, Rare was missing deadlines and their output was slowing to a crawl while development costs skyrocketed. When Rare co-founders Tim and Chris Stamper put their remaining stake up for sale, they triggered a bidding war hoping Nintendo would overpay out of sentimentality.  Hiroshi Yamauchi looked at the math and refused to bite. Rare only accounted for a tiny fraction of Nintendo’s revenue at the time, and critical talent was already leaving the studio to form independent teams. Crucially, Nintendo owned the rights to Donkey Kong and Star Fox, meaning Microsoft was paying an inflated 375 million dollars for a logo and a handful of niche intellectual properties.  Passing on Rare wasn't a mistake; it was letting a competitor spend a fortune on a studio that had already peaked, freeing up resources for Nintendo to build their own internal teams and weather the GameCube era.

I will always stand by the notion that them not purchasing Rare was one of their biggest mistakes.

@BlueBlurLewd @ManaByte Purely because it released during the height of the N64's popularity and wasn't a mature rated game like Conker. That's not indicative of Rare losing their touch or whatever, especially considering Conker received comparable critical acclaim.
