Best places to shoot to drop a bear as soon as possible. Base of the ear or in shoulders in line with the spine always worked well. “Elmer Keith’s Big Game Hunting” (1948)

270 or nah?
Hawkeye@Wiki_Collins

@MagnumKeith I like my .270 for Deer, it's a great cartridge for lighter use, although it'll absolutely take Elk, Moose, etc if you use it within it's parameters with a good shot.

Hey @MagnumKeith. What was Elmer's opinion of the L-frame Smiths? Did he prefer the N-frame for .357 mag or did he appreciate what Smith was trying to do with the L?

The ranch on North Fork was a good place for finding winter meat. Shot this little 2 point buck at 400 yards with a 334 OKH. “Hell, I Was There” (1979)

🚨 Minnesota wants to disarm the people schools already trust with SF 3572 SF 3572: ❌ Ends principal-approved carry ❌ Disarms trained, background-checked adults ❌ Removes local control ❌ Requires specific storage when you must disarm The bill passed the Senate Education Policy Committee on a party-line vote and is now pending before the Senate Finance Committee Anna Leamy breaks it down in her testimony⬇️ #mnleg #mn2a #2A

O.H. Elliot has designed a handful of great cartridges excellent for either single shot or double rifles. One is a 277 caliber taking any 7 mm bullet and enough powder to give about the same ballistics as the 276 Dubiel magnum. “Big Game Rifles and Cartridges” (1936)

I have many times watched an old bull elk stop and sniff my tracks, for all the world like a hound dog, then whirl and run. But once I had a moose pass within three feet and not scent us.

Moose have the largest and longest noses of all American game, but I do not believe their sense of smell is any better than, if as good as, that of an elk. “Elmer Keith’s Big Game Hunting” (1948)

Ivory grips offer extra weight for improved balance in your hand. Plain is fine, but checkered or carved designs will offer a firmer grasp. My first choice on stocks for gun fighting. Second choice would be rosewood, and third would be a dense walnut. “Sixguns” (1961)
