in Isabel Fall's "Helicopter Story" (2020), the narrator is a US military pilot who bombs a school because an AI designated it as a target. for the crime of writing this story, its author, an anonymous trans woman, was hounded from public life by luminaries of sci-fi literature.

It’s curious how I ended up photographing the Kowloon Walled City, along with co-author Ian Lambot. We ended up making the most thorough (and most frequently referenced) record of the place. Why didn’t any HK photographers concentrate their efforts on documenting the place? One reason is that every parent told their kids to stay clear of the place. The other, and maybe more important reason, is that it wasn’t considered a worthy subject. Had the Walled City lasted just a few years longer (it was demolished in 1993), I have no doubt that young HK photographers and filmmakers would have been all over the place. But it was erased just moments before HK woke up to itself. A generational change. r/industrialmusic sometimes has an r/goth hate post blow up and the comments go "My comment recommending Skinny Puppy got removed! Don't they know industrial and goth are super intertwined?" Then you search for SoM/SaTB/the Cure on the industrial subreddit and there's no results

I've seen people who compile resources/lists of goth bands get called gatekeepers many times over for also explaining that Evanescence/Type O/emo pop aren't goth, by people who often times do not engage in the subculture at all
