The great Oliver Mtukudzi died exactly five years ago. In this video he was addressing the cholera crisis that was prevailing around 2017-18. Nothing has changed since this great icon’s intervention because the Government has not done what needed to have been done, which is making clean running and drinking water available to citizens in Zimbabwe’s urban areas. As I have always said many times, Zimbabwean law clearly states that it is the duty of the State to provide water sources, but this hasn’t been done for Harare and Bulawayo and many urban cities and towns for 43 years. Harare relies on a lack built in 1950 for 100,000 people against its population of 3 to 4 million people including those in Chitungwiza. The government conveniently takes advantage of some people’s ignorance when it blames local urban councils. It is not the job of councils to provide dams and lakes, it is the state that should provide that infrastructure, but sadly the public funds meant for this have been routinely looted for 43 years. The mismanagement of public funds highlights systemic problems that impact citizens' basic needs, these systematic problems are resulting in Zimbabweans dying from a medieval disease, cholera, because of corrupt rule. As shown in this video, cholera has been with us for years, I covered cholera stories in Zimbabwe when I was with @itvnews as far back as 2008, yet fifteen years later we are still talking about the same tragedy. The water delivery system itself is rotten, it requires a decent economy that provides jobs for citizens to pay rates. 95% of Zimbabwe’s potential job work force is seated at home doing nothing, so rates are also not being paid. Investors are not coming to Zimbabwe to create jobs because of corruption which is at the heart of Government, they are also not coming because of misplaced political and economic policies that keep changing daily like the weather. Yet Government takes advantage of citizen ignorance and blames the councils for things that are directly linked to its tragic and now well documented failures. The persistent challenges in Zimbabwe that range from the lack of clean drinking water to systemic issues like corruption and economic instability form the relatedness of things that define this crisis. They underscore the urgent need for comprehensive political and economic reforms whether through via dialogue or revolutionary transformative means that will create a new template for how things should be done! It is important to note that Zimbabwe is not short of money to provide all these basic requirements for its citizens, it is only short of capable, patriotic and honest leaders who care about the welfare of their people. As Tuku once sang, Gudo Guru Peta Muswe, Vadiki Vagokuremekedza. This should be a message for all the political elites that have authored this crisis and are continuing to double down on the citizens.

Proud of my @YoungAfricaInt team & partners. Cabo Delgado, an area in Northern #Mozambique, is severely troubled by terrorist attacks. Essential that #youths learn skills and contribute to #development. @NLinMozambique @HennyFdeVries @UNmigration @frontlineaids @ideialabmz

Most pulpits have been reduced to motivational oratory orgies of unrealistic promises.Sunday morning inspiration has often led to Monday morning frustration as often times the inspiration is void of information.Relevance demands that we be less descriptive and more pragmatic.

You are treated according to how you are perceived. Those who represent you control the narrative paintbrush making your image. Misrepresentation is the greatest threat to favor.Proximity mandates representation, discern your circle.
