I don't like how the narrative has been about Daigo's age.
It's not his age, it's the game. Other 40+ yr old players have done well in SF6.
SF6's design just doesn't jive with his playstyle & it makes me sad that this one particularly volatile SF has him considering retirement.

Daigo on stream talking about Kemonomichi. He says he seriously planned on retiring if he lost to Mena. The reason being that since SF6 release he has not felt “strong” or the motivation to improve like in his youth in the arcade days. But after 3 months of training, in the final week before the match he thought, “Wait a minute. Am I strong again? This is what it felt like back in the day.” He was incredibly stressed the day before the match and couldn’t eat, and said just walking outside felt like he was already in the fight. He thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep due to stress, but surprisingly fell asleep easily - however when he woke up he had tears in his eyes. He doesn’t know why, but he thinks it’s because he had a dream where he quit Fighting Games. After he lost to Mena, he still thought it was time to retire. But in the taxi ride back to Tokyo, Eita kept bothering him and begging him not to. Daigo agreed just to shut him up, but then he thought back on that feeling of being strong in the last week and thought if he could keep that same motivation and approach he had for Kemonomichi, he could become strong again. For now he has decided to continue competing, but is taking a short rest after the set.

I saw a post about me getting banned on speedrun com today and the comments are just rampant with speculation. I'm updating my 2021 statement on this and I'll explain why: speedrun com never reached out to me when they banned me, just did it silently and I learned about it months later. A simple conversation would've prevented this. The reason they banned me is because they were sent online slander about me and believed it without fact checking or communicating with me. But it is slander. My character is being lied about, and I vehemently deny any claim of abuse being made about me. I have never done anything remotely abusive in a relationship. I've been harassed and bullied for the last 5 years and I've been too afraid to say anything publicly again. Today, I am forced to show you why you shouldn't believe the person telling you all these lies about me. I will NEVER AGAIN apologize for things I didn't do. Idk, suicide rate is a lot higher on males, men tend to do a lot of stressfull and a lot of time shitty work and for what I know men tend to minimize their own problems.
In the trauma aspect I can definitely see women having it worse though

Daigo literally inspired countless people and led the FGC to where we are today. His 30+ year legacy being concluded by getting embarassed 10-3 on stage in a game he's never performed well at, to a player he has no connection to, does nothing for the community.
This match never should have happened, but the moment Mena called him out in front of 10,000+ people, he couldn't say no.

Mena can give an impassioned speech about how he considers defeating Daigo in a FT10 one of the greatest accomplishments ever. Daigo literally has been prep time Batman and has defeated people performing significantly better than him SEVERAL times. and people wanna dismiss this and not help build anticipation for it and instead equate it to some Netflix BS cash grab like these aren’t 2 of the greatest SF players of all time in a situation where the older player has always shined. can we help ourselves as a community just a lil bit?
