My car left Lagos at 5am. It has just arrived Asaba after 8pm. It had no breakdowns. It made Benin at 10.30. That was a 3hour drive in the 80s. But the real news is that it took 6hours to cross Benin. From police trying to extort money to terribly bad roads detty Dec got dirty

Dr Joe Abah @DrJoeAbah is an internationally recognised expert in governance & institutional reforms, political economy analysis and change management. Between 2013 & 2017, he was the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms in the Nigerian Presidency. Before then, he led several programmes for the UK Department for International Development (DFID) in Nigeria, including the privatisation of waste management, reform of the Water Board in the Federal Capital Territory & creation of the Abuja Enterprise Agency.
