Last week, a driver ran through Stanton Park & hit a tree. Thankfully, no one was hurt and they were arrested & charged with a DUI. At the very least, incidents like this should come with a loss of driving privileges, which is why the STEER Act is crucial for neighborhood safety.
Actions have consequences. Weakening laws, showing leniency towards violent criminals, & defunding the police inevitably lead to increased crime. Charles Allen’s disastrous policies, during his tenure as Chairman of the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee from 2017-2022, have brought us to this critical point. Our elected officials must be held accountable for their failures. This past weekend alone, #DC saw multiple reported crimes, contributing to what is projected to be the 2nd most violent year in 26 years. Fare enforcement isn’t just about fare collection, it’s about keeping our communities safe. Yesterday, while addressing fare evasion, MTPD officers arrested 4 individuals with open warrants for charges ranging from larceny to armed carjacking. #wmata
