@VitalVegas Most indoor spaces used to be ice cold. Now they’re unbearable in the name of “saving energy” but really money.

Maybe my favourite giggle of the whole thing is that it is inherently a nod to Walt Disney Studios Paris since in substance this is programmatic music - movie music. So both an acknowledgement of the history of the park and a pathway into the future IP-driven identity.

I’m working on a score study of the Adventure Way BGM (completely normal for an old lady living in a shoe) and I’m thinking I should just go all the way and turn it into a composition/arrangement thesis and go back to school in my spare time for another degree I’ll never use. 🤔

Uncle Walt’s Little Known Facts
Churros were introduced to Disneyland in 1985 by Jim Lowman, then the Fantasyland food-and-beverage manager, after he spotted a churro cart at the Long Beach Grand Prix. He immediately tracked down supplier J&J Snack Foods (the same company behind the churros sold at Costco) and convinced them to custom-make 12-inch “Disney-sized” versions (twice the length of the standard 6-inch street version). Lowman’s first test cart was placed near the exit of the Mark Twain Riverboat. It was such an instant hit that two more carts were added inside the brand-new Videopolis dance club (now the Fantasyland Theatre), and churro stands quickly multiplied to nearly every major intersection in the park. Early Disneyland churro carts were propane-powered fryers that burned through six or more tanks per day during busy periods…cast members literally had to plan extra propane deliveries just to keep the cinnamon-sugar supply flowing. Unlike at Walt Disney World (where churros are often pre-made off-site and shipped in), Disneyland churros are still fried fresh to order right at the carts and stands...that’s why the smell hits you the second you step off Main Street. Disneyland alone sold 4.4 million churros in 2018 (Disneyland is the largest consumer of churros in the world). By 2023 that figure had climbed to an estimated 5.8 million across Disney’s U.S. theme parks (with the majority still coming from the original Anaheim park). At roughly $6 apiece, that translates to about $35 million in annual revenue and a jaw-dropping $32 million in gross profit...high-margin magic that once made headlines for out-earning Disney+ profit in a single year. #Disneyland #DisneyFacts

Movie concerts are cash cows so orchestras can’t say no to them. Musicians found them fun at first, but once novelty became the norm it got pretty demoralizing: The concerts are long, you’re not the main attraction, and most people leave during the credits. Lowbrow stuff.

Acquaintance in Pittsburgh Symphony Orch told me they played almost 20 movie music concert weeks this year and only 15-18 weeks of heavy meat and potatoes classical. I’ve heard of this situation for several orchestras now.

Did you know that gas powered leaf blowers are no longer allowed in Burbank? Adopted by the City Council in December 2025, this new ordinance supports cleaner air and quieter neighborhoods; while aligning with California’s long term goal of zero-emission equipment by 2035. Rebates are available for residents and businesses who switch to electric by January 1, 2027. 🔗 Learn more about the ban on gas powered leaf blowers and available rebates here: bit.ly/4uODYmx or contact Burbank Code Enforcement at (818) 238-5225.

@BrerOswald You don’t have to understand everyone. Some adults enjoy Bluey. Some adults are curious about a new, increasingly rare live stage show in a theme park they frequent. Some adults are obsessed with Splash Mountain.

@DuelingParkNews Genuinely curious, how would this not be considered an intricate coaster? It has two perfectly synchronized, loooong tracks with many trains, multiple launches, and extreme forces. It might not have some special elements like a drop track, but it has a lot going on.

Uncle Walt’s Little Known Facts
Disney CEO Michael Eisner seriously considered building at least three more Disney MGM Studio theme parks - one at Disneyland Paris, one as Tokyo Disneyland’s second gate, and one, the Disney MGM Studio Backlot, built in Burbank, right next to the Disney Studios. That idea originated from a lunch meeting on January 22, 1987, between Burbank city officials and Eisner, where Eisner sketched initial concepts on napkins and the tablecloth during a two-hour discussion in Disney's executive dining room. On April 24, 1987, Burbank Mayor Michael Hastings attended a presentation at Walt Disney Imagineering led by Imagineer Joe Rohde; Hastings initially reacted negatively, describing it as a "bull in a china shop," but later supported the project after receiving positive feedback from others. The project's fictional backstory involved a gold rush in the late 1890s leading to an Old West town that evolved into a movie studio with diverse sets like a Parisian lane and Spanish street; Disney "rediscovered" this abandoned site to transform it into an entertainment complex, explaining the eclectic architectural mix. The Hollywood Fantasy Hotel was planned as the tallest structure, with 400 rooms themed to film genres (e.g., film noir or westerns) on different floors, and a top-floor Celestial Dining Room featuring a planetarium ceiling that simulated seasonal changes in the night sky, accompanied by a chamber orchestra. Opposition from MCA/Universal included a $20,000 campaign mailing glossy pamphlets to 43,000 Burbank residents under the guise of "Friends of Burbank," warning of traffic chaos and $100 million in tax subsidies; MCA later admitted involvement, contributing to the project's cancellation in April 1988 after costs escalated to $618 million. #Disneyfacts
