Eventually needed to go home; called in to scheduling to point out the flaw in their plan when the FO told me they were deadheading (DH) him home. You don’t DH pilots home unless they are sick / injured, especially from a non-hub, *especially* the islands. Then the jet is stuck. Jets stuck on the ground are very bad for airlines. They cost a lot of money every minute they sit, not producing revenue. Thanks to the 4 passengers that showed up on time. Kind of a light load w/ crew outnumbering passengers, but we don’t cancel flights just because there aren’t enough passengers. The jets must move & the spice must flow.
